The real reality is he'll probably learn nothing from his time in prison. I debt he personally finances a dog fighting ring, but he won't keep his nose clean, it's in his genes.

And if you watched the show and saw the aftermath of what he wrought, you'd laugh at anything short of having him chained to a rape machine and let the prisoners finest take their turns.

eh, I don't know about that. doesn't sound very much like something I would subject someone to.

But I dunno....maybe if he ran a baby fighting ring, I could see a harsher punishment.

who ever does?

you hear about these people that go back to prison several times. many people don't learn from their mistakes, prison is just a time-out for them, just the way things are.

yep, I love dogs. A dog saved my life. I've had a few dogs. Plan on getting a puppy pretty soon.
However, I am an adult that is capable of separating my emotions from rational thought processes.

...says the narrow minded man that thinks a person should be shanked/raped/tortured in prison ON TOP of doing the time that he is legally bound to serve. ON TOP of paying fines. Hell, the dogs now live on a fucking farm in a life better than most humans...all on Vick's dime.

really, what the fuck do you do for a living? Please tell me you're not in a position to enforce law, defend people in a court of law, counsel others, or otherwise make decisions that effect others in any meaningful way.

I didn't say he should be shanked. Your reading comprehension is terrible. And I wouldn't go accusing someone of being narrow minded when the only thing you know is how to echo the government line. Hell, you seem to be the most intellectually bankrupt person in the entire thread.

This doesn't even make sense. I think the government works wonders in doling out justice, especially in States where we waste millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars navigating the appeals process of a convicted murderer, only to murder him anyway. Some amount of justice we got there, right? Also, government works well in situations where murders...GET OFF SCOT FREE! Awesome man!

If prison were in fact a place that doing pretty shitty stuff on the outside got you shanked, perhaps millionaires would be a bit more fearful of it when they set out to organize a massive dog fighting operation rather than assuming they are untouchable.

You have a pretty fucked up view of what prison should be. pick up a criminal law book sometime. I can recommend a few to you if you would like. prisons are supposed to be a punishment, not torture.

you send people to prison so they can repay a debt to society, to reform them, and remove them from socoety....not to torture them.

Now that I think about it I think I'd gladly take a non-lethal shanking over several months of prison time. I mean, a couple of quick jabs, some torn flesh and muscle, a week or two of being sore, a few stitches; it doesn't sound that bad really.

If I went to jail the following would result:
- Lose my job, losing tens of thousands in income.
- Pay thousands in mortgage fees for a house I'm not living in.
- Have constant worry that I'd come home to a place that has been robbed or vandalized.

Vick has lost millions of dollars as a result of this. Even if he gets picked back up by an NFL team his livelihood has been permanently damaged. Add to that the fact that his name has been dragged through the mud.

And some of you seem to think the world will be a better place if someone sticks a sharpened toothbrush handle in his side. I'm sure he would have gladly taken a shanking over the rest of the shit he has been through.

haha, you guys really think prison is that awesome?
unless you're sentenced to death? prisons aren't supposed to be death traps.

but there are a lot of people that get sentenced, but don't make it out. between the widespread HIV infections, the violence, and the virtually non existant healthcare system, I sure as fuck wouldn't want to go to prison if I had a choice.

haha, skack. yeah, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it were a quick in and out stabbing. I don't know how many shankings are non lethal though.
you forgot to mention that after a convict gets out of prison, they're not able to find jobs, a place to live, or support themselves in hardly any way.

no one should do jailtime for hurting or killing an animal. A fine is good enough. I hunt, so why can I blow a 30 30 shell through the head of a deer - yet can't kill (and eat) a dog? Why is it only "cute" things are saved? I myself, see nothing wrong with dog or cock fighting.

The love of pets is simply another step in the outright movement to emasculate our society.

Wouldn't almost all shankings be non lethal? You're being stabbed around the midsection with a fairly small blade.

I watched a thing on prison gangs one time, and pretty much everyone interviewed had been shanked at least once.

you DO send people to prison to punish them. But believe it or not, there is a psychological and legal reason behind punishment. Torture is not one of these reasons. However, reform, repayment of debt, and the removal of criminal elements from society ARE reasons for punishment.

Okay, so let's say he did just kill dogs (as some of you seem to consider another living being no big deal). The problem with this is that he tortured another living creature. Most of us kill insects all the time, no big deal. But when a person moves up to killing and torturing animals that are decently high up on the intelligence spectrum without any remorse, it's just plain disturbing. It makes me wonder what else they are capable of. Under the right circumstances would they balk at killing or injuring a human? This is the reason I think he needs more time in jail to stew. And we all know he got off easy because of his status in pop culture. If he had been just some regular guy he would have had a lot harsher punishment. At least some of his money went to the care and comfort of the dogs.

yes, very sick and disturbing indeed. I do think it's a bit of a stretch to say "he might kill a human next". I have no idea about his psychological profile, so I can only speculate.

...and I thought that he received a more harsh sentence than normal because of his status?
I'm asking because I thought the prosecuters and court publically admitted to wanting to make an example out of him. Additionally, assuming the average joe had the resources to do this, do you guys think they would receive the fines as well?
I mean, Vick is broke right now.

Right, because some people still kill people, execution has no deterring effect? What law books have you read, because I'm going to steer clear of those.

Quote :

The idea that you seem to have some sort of remorse that he lost his bank roll...his unfathomable (to most of us here) bank roll...regardless of reasons, be it from dog fighting (not the reason) or terrible mismanagement of money (the reason) is really pretty sad. In lieu of the shanking, I'll be satisfied if no pro team anywhere on the planet gives this guy another chance at being a millionaire for playing a fucking sport. The request for the shanking is predicated on the belief that he will get another chance to do just that.

Quote :

I think one of the generic common markers of most serial killers was they tortured animals at some point in their life. Disregard for life is disregard for life. These aren't plants and cockroaches we're talking about here.

Running a dogfighting operation has nothing to do with killing people. Vick didn't torture these animals for the fun of torturing things.

Dogfighting was a respectable sporting event a few hundred years ago, was everyone involved in it back then a potential serial killer? Are all matadors just a step away from killing a busload of school kids?

Then what did he torture them for, because they were most certainly tortured. Was it so the dog fighting ring could supplement a few thousand a week (I'm pulling numbers out of my ass here) to his millions from the NFL and endorsements?

Bull fighting and the continued repeated abuse of these dogs are worlds away from each other. Besides, I never implied Vick has a serial killer streak in him, it was merely a statement about things common to serial killers. Jeez.

yep. that's what I typed. I'm still wondering how from that you extrapolated "has no deterrent effect"

And it's absolutely true. If the death penalty (our most harsh sentence), had a huge deterrent effect, then we really wouldn't see the numbers of murders that we see. For example, in texas, you're almost certain to be sentenced to death if you're convicted on murdering someone. Are there still murders in texas?

Quote :

I'm positive that you like having things put into your mouth, but please don't put any words in mine. I never said that I felt sorry for his sentencing. I never have. Even when his trial was going down, I said that he deserves whatever legal punishment that he gets.

Denied.

Sorry, that's just pop psychology. Not really true. Stop guessing.

Vick engaged in dog fighting because he saw it as a sport. It's a sport to train and fight animals. And can be pretty lucrative from betting on dogs, selling dogs, and buying dogs.

Since we're pulling unquantifiable shit out of our ass here, how many would there be if Texas DIDN'T execute murders? A lot more.

No, that's pretty well established in the psychology world as accurate.
