This is one of the reasons I always carry a knife.
When you work in the woods you never know what kind of dogs you'll run accross.
If my job let me, I'd tote a gun around.

^^ yeah, how's that puppy-kicking story go again?

dude, a lion and a pit bull are not even remotely comparable. at any rate, it totally depends on the dog. there are good ones and bad ones, and a lot of the bad ones were bred and trained to be that way. solution? avoid the ones that were bred to be aggressive or for fighting, and then don't train your pit bull to be aggressive or a fighter. a lot of people want a "badass dog" and choose a pit bull as their canvas. there's nothing inherently wrong with all pit bulls across the board.

We had Great Danes from when I was a really little kid up until not long before I left for college. I've seen a Great Dane pick up a basketball in his mouth, gnaw down a small (prob 3" diameter tree), bare his teeth and snarl at a very large, aggressive Rottweiler--that then tucked tail and ran, etc...I was never threatened at all by our dogs. About the worst thing is that if a 180 lb Dane bumps into a kid, it could knock him winding. Oh, and it sucks if you have a hyper one that likes to jump on you.

lots of his dogs went straight into foster homes....why not do a little research b4 talking out of your ass?

most of the dogs went to Pitt rescues and the most aggressive dogs that were champion fighters or some of the dogs there were really fucked up went 2 Best Friends in Utah"

Oh plz...Almost half of his dogs went to Best Friends. I'd love to see how much they have taken in as donations with all the press they have received. I assure you it is an absolutely staggering amount.

In addition:

$1,000,000 + donations to care for and rehabilitate ~60 dogs . I'd say you're the one who needs to take his head out of his ass.

"So when your dog plays nanny and protects your kid, it basically means that the bastard is chasing me down the sidewalk trying to bite my ass. If I ever get a dog I will protect the dog, not the other way around. I don't need a four legged liability to protect me or my kids."

That is not at all what 'nanny dog' means.

But maybe you should be leaving other people's kids alone. Then, ever if their dog IS playing bodyguard (note: not nanny), you don't have to worry about it!

You can't count the donations towards the care of the dogs:
- they aren't something the courts ordered, or could have counted on
- you don't know they went to vick's dogs

$1mil/60 =16.6K
That's not that unreasonable.

38K from breeding to placement.

When was the last time you read about a gd, mastiff, etc. mauling or even killing a child? There are reasons most apartments dont allow certain animals. Just because its a large breed does not make it dangerous for anything other than size and that does not make it a threat.

and I looked at the stats from that temperament study. if i remember correctly, Danes actually did worse than pit bulls/amstaffs, rottweilers, and dobermans, yet they (rightly) have no reputation as being aggressive or dangerous.

I'm talking about when I'm walking down the sidewalk dumbass. Or when the UPS guy comes up to the door to drop off a package, etc. Obviously a person knows the difference, but dogs are not the keen observers some people make them out to be.

Umm...If a place that normally receives $15k a month in donations suddenly receives $1,500,000 and they know the dogs they took in are going to be on a National Geographic special; don't you think they realized where the money came from and put a vast amount more into those particular dogs than they would under any other situation? If nothing else, they had to look good for the TV cameras so the donations would keep flowing.

"One would have to have been living in a cave to avoid the media frenzy regarding the pit bulls seized from Michael Vick in July 2007. While Best Friends Animal Society received 22 of the dogs, the remaining 25 have been taken in by other various organizations from around the nation."

http://network.bestfriends.org/stopbsl/news/22534.html

22/47ths. So now it's 1,000,000 /47 = $21,276 per dog straight out of Vick's pockets. Those dogs made more in 2008 than most TWWers.
