Sidney Lowe will address the student section prior to home games in an effort to encourage people to arrive early.
When asked about the toughest places for opposing college basketball teams to play, pundits and fans alike cite Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium, UNC-Chapel Hill's Dean Dome, Kentucky's Rupp Arena or Michigan State's Breslin Center.
Where does the RBC Center, home of the Wolfpack, fall? Who knows? But the fact of the matter is that the daunting task of creating an unfavorable environment for road teams lies in the hands of the fans as much as the players.
With that, Student Wolfpack Club president Matt Benson decided to propose a few changes in the ticketing distribution to encourage fans to arrive at the games earlier.
Benson said last year's basketball tickets were distributed on game day, three hours prior to tipoff at Reynolds Coliseum. This year, however, the tickets will be distributed two hours before game time at the RBC center. Gates to enter the game open shortly after.
"The idea is to create a better home court advantage," Benson said. "Hopefully by [the Student Wolfpack Club] arriving early, it will create a challenge for the other students, fans and supporters to both arrive early and create a great atmosphere to be a part of."
According to Benson and coach Sidney Lowe, Lowe and the rest of the basketball staff plan to address the student section prior to the game with words of wisdom and inspiration.
In addition, the Student Wolfpack Club board is planning activities for fans that get there early, including a 3-point shooting contest.
Sophomore Kyle Jackson, who has been a part of the Student Wolfpack Club since his freshman year, is optimistic about the new pre-game routine.
"I think itís really cool that Sidney Lowe is taking the time to meet the fans and student body," Jackson said. "It gives us a more unique experience, and I think that the students and players will benefit from it."
Tonight, the Wolfpack (9-4, 0-1) is set to take on a gritty Florida State (13-3, 0-1) team that is coming off a loss at home to No. 2 Duke.
FSU have been sound defensively, holding all of its opponents under 44 percent shooting from the field and averaging 8.8 steals per game. The Pack shot a dismal 17 of 54 and turned the ball over 18 times in its ACC opener against Clemson last Saturday.
As the team enters its first conference home game of the year, Benson said Wolfpack fans need to show up and prove N.C. State's fanbase is among the nation's elite.
"When our team isnít doing the best, it's easy to get down," Benson said. "But hopefully by creating this hostile environment we can help improve the play of the team. We claim to some of the best fans in the country and now itís time for us to prove it."" |

collegehoopsnet's preview of the game tonight:
Quote : | " The ACC has obviously been one of the two best conferences in the country this year, with four teams worthy of top-10 status. However, after the upper tier, the middle gets a little muddled. Two of those teams looking to make moves upwards in the standings battle tonight as Florida State (13-3, 0-1) takes on North Carolina State (9-4, 0-1). Florida State is coming off a home loss to Duke, the Seminoles’ second in four games (the other was to Pittsburgh). They own wins over California, Florida and Cincinnati, as well as a loss to Northwestern. NC State has dropped two in a row on the road, to Florida and Clemson. The Wolfpack’s two other losses came at the hands of Davidson and Marquette – also in close games. There’s not much in the way of impressive wins.
Florida State is led by guard Toney Douglas, the team’s lone double-figure scorer. He does it all for the Seminoles, and takes twice as many shots as anyone else on the club. The rest of the starting lineup is big, with 6-7 Jordan DeMercy, 6-9 Chris Singleton, 6-8 Ryan Reid and 7-1 Solomon Alabi rounding out the starting five. Singleton has plenty of potential. Uche Echefu is a good inside-outside big man, while Derwin Kitchen can score. Deividas Dulkys is a gunner. North Carolina State is paced by the frontcourt duo of Brandon Costner and Ben McCauley, two players who have regained their form of two seasons ago after falling off last year. Courtney Fells is solid on the wing, while Trevor Ferguson can do a little of everything. Farnold Degand handles the point. Dennis Horner and Tracy Smith are versatile forwards, and Julius Mays and Javier Gonzalez are backups in the backcourt.
Both of these teams have a chance to break into the upper division of the ACC as the season goes on, but they each need to learn how to win big games and develop some consistency. There will be plenty of frontcourt talent on display tonight, but the key will be NC State’s ability to contain Toney Douglas in the backcourt. If the Wolfpack can slow him down, Florida State’s offense is much easier to defend. On the other side, it will be interesting to see if the Seminoles’ plethora of bigs can guard Costner and McCauley. The difference will be North Carolina State’s homecourt advantage and experience.
WINNER: North Carolina State MARGIN: 4-6" |

A tough environment could put more excitement and energy into the players and make it harder for the other team's players to concentrate, which in turn may help us win a few games. Boom better team, record wise. More excitement. If we sell out the RBC Center for every game, and create a great environment for every game, and we still suck then we can fully complain that the coaches and players aren't holding up their ends of the bargain. I hear everyone talk about us having the best fans out there, and I know we have had it tough for a long time, but the best fans are the kind that show up no matter what. An example of this kind of dedication is South Carolina football fans (their the only team I know of that can go winless in a season and still sell out their stadium, which seats over 70k btw; that's not an easy task), Cleveland Browns fans, and Kansas City Chiefs fans.
I'm fine with Lowe wanting to address the students prior to the game. It makes it feel more like a family. People are more passionate and care more when they have a vested interest in something especially if it involves people that feel like family. Just look at the people of Green Bay and the dedication they have to the Packers. Do you think Roy Boy is going over to the smelly students that haven't bathed in a couple of days and talking to them?

I honestly dont think we should ever have less than 3 of our starters in the game at any one given time
either Lowe isn't really sure of who his best players are or he just thinks they have horrible conditioning

i've defended sid for a while now but if he was fired at half time i could care less. i'm definitely overreacting but sid totally killed our momentum by sitting costner for half of the game so far, and now we can't get it back.
