20 whole fucking minutes, 0-4 shooting, 2 rebounds, 2 points, and god knows how many rebounds and points for BC due to lack of boxing out and lack of defense.
Horner shouldn't play more than 6-7 minutes in an ACC contest unless people are fouled out and we have no other choice. I simply don't get how he has played more minutes than Tracy Smith. His paltry 1.15 points per shot is one of the worst on the team (even worse=Javi, CJ, Johnny Thomas...not Simon Harris BTW). 1/25/2009 11:13:28 AM |

Horner won us the only ACC game we have won. He comes in doesn't turn the ball over (by far the least of any of our big men) hits his free throws and is getting better on the boards. He deserves the minutes he gets. 1/25/2009 5:54:28 PM |

^^seriously?
What good is a shooter who can't/won't shoot? Or a big man who can't rebound? Or a basketball player who can't run? I like the guy and want to see him do well, but damn ... it's painful watching him most of time.

I like him as a person. He plays hard, he works hard at getting better. But he's regressed as a player, and no one talks about the awfulness that doesn't show up on the stat line. His defense starts runs for the opposing team. Watch only him on defense when he goes into the game. There's a reason teams focus on attacking Horner....it's because they succeed.
For example, in the BC game after we came roaring back on that 16-0 run in the second half...in comes Horner and two other subs...Tyrese Rice starts getting off shots from screens because Horner doesn't step out on the screen and bump him until Rice's guy can recover. It happened like 3 times in about 2 minutes, and BC never looked back. 1/26/2009 10:47:25 AM |

Why did horner come in? Because costner fouled out! He isn't our best option but you need to have your backups ready and that means they are gonna come in and get minutes. 1/26/2009 10:55:37 AM |

I'd rather have Johnny Thomas or CJ or even Ferguson come in and play with a smaller lineup. It's not like Horner defends the inside well or rebounds/boxes out well. I bet Thomas and CJ can outrebound Horner despite the size difference, and they can probably stay in front of their man better too.
There's no reason to have Horner in the game that much. We have 3 good bigs...and enough 6'5 swingmen....Horner tries to be both and fails at both. 1/26/2009 11:42:03 AM |

Bad coaching. Lowe should have put Tracy Smith in.
^Yes Yes Yes. Horner is Brackman version 2. Pretty good as a frosh and then tries to gain weight and strength and loses his shot by being bigger and becomes slower and a liability.1/26/2009 12:24:58 PM |
Bullet All American 28417 Posts user info edit post |
Horner is no Brackman.
This thread sucks. (but so far, so has Dennis)
I keep hoping he'll come in, releive some starters, hit a couple threes, then go sit back down. But it just hasn't happened. He's been far more of a liablity than an asset.
He played great in that OT, I'll give him that. If he could always play like he did in that OT, then he'd deserve 10-15+ minutes a game. But that was an exception. HIs usual play only deserves him a few minutes a game.
Prove me wrong Dennis, prove me wrong. 1/26/2009 12:33:59 PM |

Horner has the length to bother shooters in the post unfortunately he plays too much on the perimeter. I think his biggest problem is confidence. He gets a little confidence he can be a good backup. Right now I agree that Thomas shows more upside though (Smith and Horner don't really come close to playing the same position and they were in at the same time during BC). 1/26/2009 12:40:21 PM |

SO here's the deal. While I appreciate all that he did in his one overtime game, I want to play the players who could benefit the Pack long term.
Horner is not one of those people. Is he servicable? Sure. Should he be getting minutes over someone like Smith, hell No. Next year, smith could win us fucking games on his own b/c of the experience he gained this year.
PLAY HIM AND PLAY HIM NOW. 1/26/2009 4:54:33 PM |

If he always played like he played in those few minutes in overtime, this thread would not be here. But he doesn't. That is the ONLY time he's played like that. (and he apparently went off in the Canadian exhibition games, which got my hopes up, only to be sunk).
Yes, I appreciate his performance in that overtime. Why doesn't he play like that everytime he's in? He's gotten plenty of minutes to prove himself.
Anyways, I'm done hating on Dennis for now. I really, really hope he steps up, becomes the reliable backup that he has the potential to be, and this is another "magical mojo" thread.

How as this guy a 4-star recruit? He contributes nothing to the team (consistently that is). I mean the guy cannot move laterally which is why he cannot play D or drive. If he can't hit a shot he might as well give up hoops. That tat on his arm must be the enlarged logo from that board game with the little catapaults and pastic basketballs which is something related to actual basketball that he might be good at. If Sid isn't gonna stop rotating him I hope he midly injures himself whe he tries to sprint his goofy ass down the floor. He just might be the worst player I have seen at State to get significant playing time. He is a waste of space and time on our team and it is a shame sid does not recognize and address this. Embarassing... 1/27/2009 9:37:56 AM |

^I'm not a big Horner fan, but that's a tad harsh.
I just don't understand how he regressed so much. When he was a freshmen, he was actually really valuable to the team. He came in, didn't ever screw up, hit shots when he was open, and actually rebounded pretty well. Now, he seems to do nothing.
Must be the tat. 1/27/2009 9:42:54 AM |

He doesn't turn the ball over and that right now is our biggest problem. Horner and Smith don't play the same position so one getting PT over the other isn't an issue. They both need experience because we will need BOTH of them next year. Horner has been a disappointment but as long as he isn't turning the ball over I have no problem with him getting some PT. 1/27/2009 10:54:58 AM |

Not turning the ball over is good and all, but this team really needs offense more than anything. Not someone who's only value to the team is passing the ball immediately to someone else. Or pump faking. 1/27/2009 11:13:38 AM |
