Wow, DeAngelo Hall got 6 year/54 million from the Redskins. What a rediculous signing.

admittedly i don't know much about economics or nfl finances, but how can a team be the "highest spending team" when there's a salary cap? wouldn't all the teams use all the cap space? is it more about saving some for down the road?

Are the Redskins fucking crazy...they just dropping money like it automatically puts them into the playoffs. I mean for real...what the hell are they thinking. And that much on two guys with a history of issues. Maybe they will shock the hell out of me. I would have thought they went after a WR first.

NFL contracts aren't guaranteed so alot of these big contracts are probably backloaded and have a bunch of performance bonuses.

Florio has been alluding for months to the fact that today would be the largest traffic day ever for them.

evidently their hosting is plain awful. Or, perhaps PFT has gotten so popular that they completely underestimated it, and whatever they did to prepare isn't close to adequate.

oh, and the haynesworth deal has 41 million fucking dollars GUARANTEED. I think something ridiculous like 30 million will be paid over the first 13 months.

Their backup site at http://profootballtalk.sportingnews.com has crashed a few times as well today, and even Florio's Twitter crashed for a couple of minutes. I think the amount of traffic has probably been well beyond what anyone anticipated.

The Redskins are such a joke. I'm just glad Fat Albert is staying out of the NFC South.

Hopefully the league doesn't block the transaction because the Skins are abusing the cap. They're going to have to cut a ton of players to make it through this year and they need an uncapped year in 2010 just to unfuck themselves.

If they don't get that uncapped year to pay off these ridiculous contracts they're going to end up like the 49ers. It looks like they're still in the running for Derrick Dockery as well.

Broncos sign Correll Buckhalter, JJ Arrington, Jabar Gaffney, Reynaldo Hill and Brian Dawkins on the first day of free-agency.

They aren't wasting any time.

Cassell traded to the KC, details are unclear and there may be a third team involved

Could be TB trading for Dorsey who is useless in KC's new 3-4

^^it's both Vrabel and Cassel for a 2nd round pick. A bargain IMO. Detroit should have been all over that.

I was worried that KC was doing something retarded like trading 1st rounders with NE

I'm a little surprised they didn't hold out for more but I guess they just really didn't want to pay for that franchise tag

Can someone explain to me why the Pats did this? Vrabel is one of their best players. And although I do not like Cassel, he does have a LOT of value on the open market. So why did they franchise him, then trade him to the Chiefs for a second round pick? That seems pretty worthless for two proven players.

They definitely could have gotten a better deal, but I guess it's the past relationship with Scott Pioli.

seriously - vrabel wouldn't be worth a 2nd round pick alone, and now new england has more cap room, 3 2nd round picks for trade day deals, and a lot more flexibility in the FA market

They needed an OLB to replace Vrabel anyways, they could get someone like Clay Matthews or Connor Barwin with that draft pick. They may even have enough cap room to go after Terrell Suggs, they certainly have the means to address the need at CB with Shawn Springs or Leigh Bodden.

Terrell Suggs is franchised. They're not gonna go after him, unless they want to give up draft picks.

I guess I really had my hopes up that they'd get something really great for Cassel. And I have always really liked Vrabel so I guess I am just really disappointed.

I mean they were obviously bluffing with the franchise tag.. they never had any intention of paying that much for a backup QB and were trying to trade him sooner than later so as not to miss out on FA

Well, if nothing else I will enjoy watching Cassel flounder in Kansas City. Not just because he is a sub-par quarterback (which he is) but also because I don't think any QB could be successful in KC right now. I cannot believe NFL teams have actually given credibility to Cassel after one year in a system that would probably make me look like a Pro Bowler.

kitna to dallas

Quote :
"The Lions have traded quarterback Jon Kitna to Dallas for late-round draft picks, according to nationalfootballpost.com. Team spokesman Bill Keenist confirmed the Lions traded Kitna to Dallas but did not say what they received in the deal.

Kitna was not expected to return. He is due a $1 million roster bonus March 3.

Cornerback Anthony Henry comes to Detroit as at least part of the deal. He spent the past four years with the Cowboys after four years with the Browns.

Asked last week if the Lions were trying to trade Kitna, general manager Martin Mayhew said: “We look at options for trade for a lot of players, for all of our players, really. If something kind of came up where we had an opportunity to trade Jon and there was value for us, we would certainly look into that.”

Cassel won't be any good outside New England.

The Pats cleared 17+ million, and got a third 2nd rounder.

fucking brilliant.

NFL Players Missing At Sea

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=txnflplayersmissing&prov=st&type=lgns

Quote :
"The Coast Guard is conducting a search in the Gulf of Mexico for a fishing boat with two NFL players on board.

According to Clearwater’s ABC Action News affiliate, a 21-foot fishing boat left the area at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and did not return at its scheduled time later in the day.

Citing a call from the Coast Guard dispatcher, the television station reported that two of the passengers are Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Smith and Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper.

The boat, which had four people on board, was reported missing at about 1:30 a.m. Officials stated that gulf waters were “extremely choppy” and believe that the boat is “in distress.”"

I think Cassel will do well in KC. I doubt he will be Tom Brady, but the growth he showed in one year is real. The numbers he put up were real, and he showed he can make the tight passes, can use his feet, read his options, and make quick decisions. If they give him some talent then hey, they can make some noise. If I was KC, I would be hoping and trying to get Crabtree.

He has shown he can handle a NFL season, and can start. Much better to take him than draft a rookie and hope he can.

Something is up with Jay Cutler. Denver tried to trade him for Cassell apparently, he got pissed, now wants to be traded. Weird:

Cutler is just being a little cunt again. McDaniels has said TB initiated the trade and that Denver wasn't interested, but Cutler got his feelings hurt. McDaniels has told Cutler he wasn't on the trading block, yada yada but Jay doesn't believe him.
