this has already been said, but props to the pilots...to ditch in the river at such an angle whereas not to destroy the plane and avoid all the buildings is pretty impressive

^^^^ He glided it into the water and was already at a low altitude and probably a lower speed since the engines were out. Planes can make water landings without breaking up.

i wonder if he was Navy or Air Force trained. Air Force pilots usually have smoother landings but Navy pilots are often more well versed in landing on a variety of surfaces..

I assume he went full flaps when he realized that he had to ditch, then just let ground effect kick in until he stalled.
