Florence is 6 hours away from me, so I'd just as soon drive to Asheville. Although, I have heard a lot of good things about the WC Handy Festival from people who live up there.


OK, so, south-east Alabama has no festivals. Well, they have some but in neither the quantity nor quality that the NC / VA / WV / TN area does.

The closest thing we've got is BamaJam, which should be a good time, but not quite what I miss. ( http://www.bamajammusicfestival.com/ ) Not to mention the shitton of dirty politics that goes along with it. But I digress. I need to get back soon. Within the month. It'll be a year in June

The 4 things I miss the most when I have to leave NC on business are:

1) Good BBQ
2) Biscuits (you'd be amazed how hard it is to find a good biscuit)
3) Sweet tea (if I head up nawth)
4) The beauty of this state

It further amazes me how SC can be right next door and yet suck so much.

I miss good BBQ and GREAT beer. Orlando doesn't have many bars that offer great microbrews. I miss the Saucer and 42nd St. Oyster Bar for their beer selection alone.

I'm not at the point where I miss NC yet, but it's definitely interesting to get used to the food being different. The culture and people here in Texas seems a lot friendlier and community-oriented.

^^ texas isn't half bad really. the people there are generally pretty nice. i'd be happy if we were to move there (which we probably will within the next few years due to transfers), if it weren't for the god awful heat and lack of a 3d landscape.

i think the worst thing is knowing that i will probably NEVER be able to move home. no jobs for both of us, and when we retire (yes, when you are 30 you think about that shit), we're to damn practical to not move to a state with no state income tax
