The anti-American label was slapped on a lot of people who disagreed with the Iraq War and a number of issues like wiretapping and torture. It was a cheap tactic to vilify dissenters.

Quote :
"it's anti-american to say "now we have our president" or some of the things im hearing daily

sir, you've always had a president, as long as you've been in america.

if he wasn't yours, then that's pretty anti-american"

i haven't heard anyone say that and it doesn't strike me as anti-American.

When Obama starts a war on false pretenses, and presides over one of the worst economies in history, i'll spit in his face too.

Obama wrote his best speeches himself. Nice try though.

depends on the definition of support.

i didn't support many of his decisions. but i hoped for the county's sake that things would work out well despite those missteps. i hoped that many of the things that he tried to do would be thwarted by other branches of government exercising their constitutional roles (that was not the case most of the time).

a lot of these arguments are basically assuming that one politician is equal to every other politician except in party.

i also do not believe barak obama to be political jesus at this point. be excited about potential, thats fine.

well i personally will support whoever is president...including obama starting today, and bush starting 8 years ago...thats just me though...to me, the concept seems pretty simple...i'm a US citizen...he's the president...he's not going to get impeached, etc...why not support him?

clearly there were a shit ton of people who didnt support bush, despite him being our president, so i dont think they'll understand my concept

i'm interested what you mean by support for someone who you will obviously disagree with on many things. i've told you (to the best of my ability) my level of support for bush. you seem like you're somehow disgusted that people didn't support bush adequately, what is the difference? what do you feel was lacking? how should people better support presidents who they don't think are doing good jobs?

i don't believe that supporting anyone blindly and not questioning their views and decisions is a healthy practice.

i will say that my past feelings on the presidency for the last 8 years would have been different had it been McCain instead, party has nothing to do with it

[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 4:24 PM. Reason : x]

i mean, why support him? if enough people vocalize their concerns, it should have an impact. do we elect people who we believe already make all the right decisions or do we elect people who listen to their constituency?

^^i'm not going to make threads and continuously bitch about obama and blame all my problems on obama, like a bunch of you people did with bush...the people who do that didnt support bush

they're all sucking the media's cocks anyway and believing anything they hear, fuck them, who cares

^i'll blindly support whoever is president, because not supporting them isnt going to do any good...its just going to make you a real asshole for 4 years who seems like they have a stick up their ass because they're SO UPSET at the same shit politicians have been doing forever...why let that shit get to your head?

Bush had the highest approval rating of any president ever, and he left with among the lowest (if not THE lowest). He squandered his support all on his own.

Bush is not president anymore, you can stop being delusional.

Supporting Bush is like supporting a coach who is fucking up your program.

It would be best for the country (program) if they succeeded at their job. But you know it's not going to happen, so you would like for them step down or get fired so they don't continue to flush the country (program) down the shitter.

i vehemently disagree with that.

we must hold all of our politicians to the fire. i've sent senators and congressmen letters and emails. hell i emailed obama during the campaign with some issues with which i had disagreement/confusion about his stances. being a passive participant in our government is not what i believe this country to be about.

There is some truth in that. but you better ask people working for you, no matter who it is, doctors, lawyers, contractors, to back their shit up. otherwise it'll be easy for them to get lazy with it.

You're very angry for such a beautiful day outside, and a new president. I recommend going outside and building a snowman to calm down. You don't have to worry about trying to support Bush's policies anymore.

you just seem to be spouting off holier than thou crap that you can't back up with anything. all the while implying that all of us are just shitty people for bitching about a president who we disagree with.

this is what a democracy is all about. our presidents are just people fulfilling a job. they are not perfect. they fuck up. lots. and it's our job to call them out.
