good grief

4 years ago when i started buying suits i would have been jealous as hell

but really

i hope those were basically the first two suits you ever bought yourself

at some point you're going to realize that suits are something you're going to wear for YEARS and you should go ahead and buy something that costs more than ~50 an item

i will second mootduff and say jos a bank

if you need to be a spendthrift, they are ALWAYS begging me to buy their shit online through drastic sales, and sometimes i fall for it

of course, i'm talking about buying like a $400 blazer for like $180 instead

and i don't even wear suits to work anymore...

oh also

pay the $8 and get the buttons so you can use braces

because some day you'll realize

A. you've been wearing your suit pants at the wrong break point (these aren't jeans)
B. suits look stupid with belts

be a man, wear suspenders

if your suit pants have belt loops and you dont wear a belt it looks terrible. that being said, I dont see anything that looks better about belts vs suspenders except for the fact that I cant stand suspenders. All I think of is old, fat, or both with suspenders. Then again I dont like suits really period.

keep on wearing suits like you're 22 years old

do you at least have belts specifically for your suits? or are you just pulling a belt out of your jeans into your suits?

I buy dress belts specifically for my suits, that way they'll match my shoes I wear with the suits. I have two black and brown belts (1 casual and 1 dress of each) and then a different belt for my khaki suit. I might wear the dressier "suit" belts with denim occasionally if I'm dressed nicer, but never have I wore a casual belt with a suit.

of course. I wear dress pants and nice button up dress shirts to work90% of the time, so I have plenty of belts that match my various dress shoes.

And I think youre making a bigger deal over suspenders vs belts than really exists. Whenever I am at an occasion where most the guys are in suits, id say its never more suspenders than belts, and the most guys wearing suspenders are older gentlemen. Thats totally fine if you like to wear them, but I really don't think the majority of people out there are going to dock me points for wearing a belt instead of suspenders...and if they are I really don't care.

PS, the CEO of the company I work for wears belts with his suits. /shrug

I work in a profession where dressing up is of the utmost importance. The only people I see wearing suspenders are old fat men. You will get the occasional "old south" guy who's not fat who wears suspenders and might throw a bow-tie on to go with it.

And I have three belts that I use just for suits and dressing up. A "braided" black and brown interchangeable belt. And a solid black and solid brown belt.

But you keep wearing your suspenders cool cat.

If you get a suit off the rack, make sure you goto a tailor to adjust the length of the cuffs and pants, otherwise it won't look right.

Also, make sure your shirt has french cuffs, and get cuff links. It makes it look like you're not the type to buy suits at a department store.

^^Not saying you're fat...just don't know where you're getting your "suspenders are stylish, only young kids wear suits" bullshit.

And suspenders can be pulled off...it just rarely happens and you don't see it that much (except on fat people of course).

Look, if you look like the actors from the black and white movies of the 40s and 50s, you can pull of the suspenders. You need the hairstyle they used to have, not crew cut, not spiky.

That movie with Mark Wahlberg and DiCaprio and Damon (CIA movie?), yeah, if you have Wahlberg's style from that movie, go ahead and use suspenders. Might even make me gay
