Sorry my sentences got mixed up, as I inserted that Shariah sentence in the middle just before posting. All the parts of the globe I mentioned, that was with regards to women's/human rights, not Shariah. Oh, and yes, there is a big fucking difference between what's on paper in theory, and its implementation.

Yeah, I hadn't either, but I ain't too shocked, as the Afghan people (and Pashtun people in particular, the largest ethnic group, and the group that the Taliban come from) are quite fond of homosexual sex between men. It has been a cultural thing for them for a long time. A lot of Afghan men used to keep (and still do) a young boy that they would have sex with. They didn't mistreat their 'sex slave' (other than the sex, that is). No beatings or chaining, etc. They used to take a little boy (orphan... the country is full of orphans), bring him up, groom him, but also have sex with him. I think this latent homosexual culture over there (derided and punished publically) stems from a combination of the austere life and the utter lack of any women that you can at least see and lust after, even on the streets. It is disgusting, but that's the way it is.
