What would be a good gun to learn on? I want something for protection when my husband is gone but I want something with not a lot of kick back, easy to fire, and simple to aim. Any suggestions?

^^ you should be able to handle just about any 9mm handgun. I have not met a female yet that had a problem with the kick.

next to the bed:

and a 3 cell mag light (or is it 4?)

and a 50lbs very protective and vicious ankle/leg/thigh biter

and a 50lbs chicken who only growls

and there's probably a pocketknife of some sort in the nightstand

oh, and in the closet there's a break action .410 shotgun and a .22lr bolt action rifle. shhhh

a revolver. they're ugly but they're easy. and btw i'm female, live by myself in a 1-story house, and that 380 is my personal protection, but i've practiced with it and know how to use it. regardless of what you get, you have to practice using it (repeatedly, over time) to make it worth having. otherwise you'll fumble, the bad guy will take your gun, and shoot you with it.

Haha a .22 meets all of those qualifications except for being actually able to stop an intruder. There's no magic gun that a noob can be Dirty Harry with. Learn on a .22 pistol, (you could probably even rent one at a range) get some understanding and confidence, put a lot of rounds through it until you can consistently put them in the paper, them move up to 9mm, buy a glock or XD and some hollow point rounds and you'll be aight

don't get a .22. it might stop him, it might just make him angry. 9mm is a good idea imo.

she doesn't necessarily need to start on a .22 pistol. i mean unless you're a total chicken, in which case i don't think having a gun in the house is a good idea anyway. just go rent whatever you think you might want, regardless of caliber. go with somebody who knows what they're doing and/or enroll in a couple of classes at the range.

I mean I guess if someone came in to my room and the was going to rape me the only thing in my nightstand I could use and throw at him would be my dildo...but then he might take that has an invitation, so I dunno if that's a good idea.

I've actually met one girl who couldn't hold the 9mm tight enough to make the action cycle. Just one though.

Revolvers are the best for girls to keep for protection I think, they are mechanically simple, easy to use, and they don't really jam. Only drawback is slow reloading time, and they only hold 5 or 6 rounds. Hopefully thats enough though.

Personally, I've got a Springfield xD .45 loaded with hollow points under the mattress, Stoeger model 2000 12 ga loaded with 3" slugs behind the door, old .22 LR in the closet, Ruger .22 pistol on the desk, and a K-bar knife in the desk drawer. My sister has a Ruger .22 revolver and a Ruger .357 revolver. Bring it bitches...

When I reach towards my night stand I find my Sig P229 .40 with Speer Gold Dots loaded, and in the drawer under it is an additional magazine.

When I reach towards my wife's night stand I find the mini-arsenal. I find a Kahr P9 with Speer Gold Dots, and a Smith & Wesson 642 Airweight .38, with Speer Gold Dot+P loaded. If I reach into the drawer is the tried and true Ruger P85 with Speer Gold Dots loaded and an additional magazine sitting right next to it.

4 Cell Mag Lights on each stand and if it's gotten super close range I have my pickhead axe lying right under the edge of the bed.

And soon sitting right next to the bed will be a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, not quite sure yet, that will be the go to for in house use.

Oh yeah and the two 60 and 80 pound dogs that will be making quite a ruckus and attempting to chew your arms and legs off...

i keep most everything locked up- what would get used in a pinch would be my CC piece (a taurus 24/7 9mm)- but if I had 15 seconds to unlock my door blower, someone might find themselves on the wrong end of my shotgun, which I keep loaded with 9 3" shells (and 3 more in the stock for quick reload, if necessary... but by that point, I think enough would have been done)

Under the bed, HK USP9 with laser sight, 2 15 round magazines and 2 10 round magazines. Another 150 rounds in my range bag at the head of the bed along with a 2-cell and 4-cell Mag Lite. One katana in the closet, and several other knives in the bedside table.

I keep my 6-D maglite by my bed

if the shit really hits the fan in my room it would be an interesting brawl, I have all kinds of tools that could be repurposed as blunt objects laying around. the breaker bar also strikes me as a fine candidate, or the 4' section of 6" PVC I used to wind an inductor on, lulz
