I'll give another vote to ben folds five and future islands.

I'd also throw in He Is Legend"

for me they are one of those bands where I dont know how much I would even like them had I heard them for the first time today and I cant tell you the last time I listened to them, but for the time they were pretty good. That and they spawned several good/well known bands.

The correct answer is Megafaun, Bowerbirds, and The Justins.

Didn't Undying have one or two guys from Catharsis? Both were great NC bands, but I liked Undying more. More structure, better vocals, and less of that sludgey hardcore that seemed to rule NC in the mid-to-late 90's.

Corrosion Of Conformity and Ben Folds Five are easily my two favorites.

Cry Of Love is good...not much material out of them, though.

Charlie Daniels Band, if we count them (Charlie Daniels is from near Wilmington)

there are some others that are ok...Archers of Loaf, Far Too Jones, etc.
_______

Hey, is Drivin' & Cryin' from NC? I think they're from SC or GA, but I'm not positive about that. There are a lot of good bands from around there, too. R.E.M., Blue Dogs, Lost Trailers, Drive By Truckers, tons of others I'm forgetting.

The name Catharsis has been used by a ton of bands...so I wouldn't be surprised if you are thinking of someone else. This one was a band in the vein of Integrity, from the mid-late 90s. Very political, and very dark. I included a link to the one I was referring to.

^^was just joking about the fact that much of TWW is big on metal, etc, and I expected the haters to follow up critiquing my NC picks

though he is legend is pretty badass and leaning towards that genre anyway....i don't know what genre they technically fall under besides general rock or hard rock....i'm not too genre-savvy these days

I'll give another vote towards avett brothers and athenaeum, both good bands in their own right. Related to athenaeum is collapsis, another good band from chapel hill.

lets throw in some Roman Candle
