I thought the De Veers ring thing was hilarious. I cracked up every time that stupid music came on. The actors skit I also found hilarious. The show wasn't amazing or anything, but it was funny and kept me entertained. 2/12/2009 11:48:33 AM |

i just saw a bit of a skit where he's breaking the news to a cult that the rapture isn't coming. looked exactly like a short story in jon stewart's "naked pictures of famous people."2/12/2009 3:55:31 PM |

Honestly, all these comparisons are just stupid.
Mitch and Demetri might tell the same genre of jokes, and a few are similar, but their delivery styles are completely different. As was said on page one:
Quote : | "One plays a serious, lucid, alien observer with full-on deadpan and 4th wall.
The other plays the drug-addled, brain damaged spacer with no 4th wall (he sometimes laughs at his jokes)." |
These two styles have totally different appeal, except for the fact that they're in the same general genre... Personally I don't like Mitch quite as much, since his jokes and stage manner are generally more aggressive and/or insistent (not a ton... but it's hard not to be more aggressive than Demetri), and he tends to relate his jokes more personally. That's not to say he's not one of the best, but I just prefer Demetri's stand-up.
You can't just have one comedian monopolizing the whole of absent-observational comedy. They might make similar observations on rare occasion, but with the way shit in the universe works, could they be reasonably expected not to?2/14/2009 5:14:43 AM |

i still think he's ripping off hedberg
but i will say, this show is the closest thing to a true sketch show i've seen in years
we're talking like Rowan & Martin/Smothers Brothers level 3/8/2009 11:30:01 PM |

i don't hate the guy, but i don't find him that funny either. i watched a few shows... seemed a bit predictable and topical. as though it would have B or C material that he'd write for a stand up show. 3/8/2009 11:51:50 PM |

Yeah, after watching a few episodes he's not really that funny. The funniest thing I've seen on there was the dinner at applebees (or w/e) with Shakespeare, Galileo, and Benjamin Franklin, and he was by far the worst character in the whole skit. 3/8/2009 11:55:03 PM |

Also, John Oliver's guest appearance for that skit was great. 3/9/2009 3:18:45 PM |

I'm pretty sure he was only one person, Galileo I think. My friend and I were watching and thought the same thing, but we decided that you could tell by the nose, lol. 3/9/2009 7:59:01 PM |

I like Demetri Martin. I find his standup routine funny and enjoyable. This show makes me laugh out loud a few times each episode, which is all you can ask for in a 30 minute sketch comedy show.
Galileo at Applebees was suprisingly hilarious.
"guy in a neckbrace" skit....I chuckled about this skit for almost 3 days. shit was gold.
and I really liked the skit about the 2 guys fighting over the parking lot (OMFG Seinfeld had an episode about that same thing!!! so unoriginal!!) This one was quick, but the subtitles after all the shit talking was awesome "You want to go???....(does NOT want to go) simple hilarious comedy right there.
this show gets my approval. which means nothing. but i will vote one vote for LIKE. 3/21/2009 8:57:44 PM |

man some of his monologue last show was terrible, all that crap about wedding rings made no sense, it was like he had to play some tune during the act to even keep the audience's attention 3/24/2009 10:48:46 PM |
