When you don't hear anything from your SO for an entire week, something is up. Trust me.

^Well, we've talked on the phone and watched the State/UNC game together....but no one-on-one face time in which to discuss it, etc.

I would call her up and ask her what's up right now, but that's me. My rationale is there is no reason to postpone the inevitable if it's truly inevitable. Unless of course you are trying to score some ass before the breakup, in that case I understand. You might be right, she could just be really stressed/busy, but if you are detecting a vibe, you should really ask her now instead of later.

So I picked her up and on the way to dinner asked what was up. She has been really stressed and busy with work, and had car trouble and a few other things that added stress, and she basically was in a foul mood all week and didn't want to direct it at me. So she pulled away and fucked another guy. Just kidding about the last part. She just needed to make it through the tough week.

Basically, my guts were wrong. I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have shit for brains.

haha yeah right. chicks love to bitch and complain, you should be the FIRST person she'd call to unload on. odds are she's letting someone else unload inside her.

Meh, I buy it. And I'm a pretty perceptive person....I was just being paranoid and she was having a depressed, shitty week.

Those of you who automatically assume cheating is the problem lose. She might break up with me, but this woman wouldn't cheat on me anytime soon.

Do not underestimate the power of your gut feeling. Always trust it first and foremost. I'd say that your gf is acting strangely. All of my gf's in the past would bitch and moan constantly when they were stressed or depressed. The fact that she left you alone suggests to me that she doesn't have strong feelings for you. I'm not sure about the whole cheating aspect of it, but based on what she said, she just isn't that into you. The entire relationship sounds like a convenient thing to her. Trust me, if a girl is into you, they won't shut the fuck up about their problems. It has nothing to do with maturity either.

^ I agree 100%

My girl woke up at 3am this morning crying because she had a nightmare that I left her. We had an arguement about me drinking to much and I left her. I told her it was just a dream, but she has been talking about this all morning now...

^^ Maybe that's why they're past girlfriends

When I get super stressed out I go into quiet/distant mode too because I just want time to think about whatever is going on. Most of the time it doesn't have anything to do with my boyfriend, I just want some alone time.

Not everything has to be about you.

Everytime I've gotten that guy feeling something happened. Anytime something was up with me the guy had that gut feeling. Gut feelings in relationships can tell you a lot.

Miska's spot on. She said she was depressed and stressed and needed to distance herself and sort things out. She said she didn't really know what was wrong during the week, and thus, didn't want to talk about it.

^5x She's a 2 year girlfriend, so I'm pretty sure she's "into me". Shit has happened before but I think this week was the worst.

She talked about it all with me and got some stress relief over the weekend, and now she seems much better.

LESSON: Sometimes it really isn't all about you.

i think there can be many right answers here to how people behave in a decent, functioning relationship (you know, one with no major problems, like chris brown, etc).

some people might process things internally and need time/space when they are stressed. they might even do this because they don't want to burden the other person. or whatever reason, some people are just like this. and even different types of problems can be handled differently. like if my boyfriend is upset about sports, he probably wants to be mad by himself for a little while. but like school or work could be totally different processing.

other people feel better when they talk about their problems (it isn't even just necessarily bitching and moaning, although a little venting can actually be positive). usually you date someone that is your really good friend, so i don't think it is unusual to share with them. and it helps to get another person's perspective on problems sometimes. not everyone's brains work the same, so it is always nice to have some input. or the opposite side, to do something nice for your SO when they are feeling down and to try to help them.

i don't think one is "right" or one means more than the other, that is just how different people operate.

the only thing weird (TO ME) about this situation is that if you have dated for 2 years, how problems and stressful situations are handled and dealt with should probably be something that each of you knows about the other already. so it shouldn't be like, shocking or whatever.

I love it when I open a thread and read the OP and start feeling the suspense

scrolling, watching the story unfold while TWW makes the requisite ass of itself

afraid, however, that the story is too fresh and I will not have my conclusion/closure before the end

my itchy fingers hover the cursor over the [Add To] button, just in case...

I begin checking the OP's post timestamps against today's date

frantic! the end of the thread is approaching and I don't yet know what happened

BAM!! resolution!

then denouement and I go outside for a smoke.

Honestly, if I'm really upset about something that has nothing to do with my boyfriend, then I'll tell him I'm stressed and upset and don't really want to talk or that I just want to go to bed. He'd do the same thing with me and neither of us would think anything is drastically wrong.

Just how well you know how to read the other person I suppose.

haha, perhaps. In my experience, this type of behavior has resulted in the beginning of the end, and I've had relationships that have lasted years as well. I'm just going on what was provided, this isn't empirical research ya know.

Exactly, it's usually always about her, lol. Too easy.

That's good. I hope that in your case, I'm completely wrong. Still, I'd always side with trusting your gut feelings, over giving anyone the benefit of the doubt.
