I wouldn't doubt it.

But somehow, it doesn't seem as dismal as the prospect of having grown up in Cartersville, Georgia... and even that shit town was above-average quality compared to some of the places near it.

Its not a stretch to say that the average southern chirstian (and i mean observant christian, not one who drinks and is sexually active, etc), cares more about Jesus than they do human life, and cares more about getting their own soul into heaven than getting other living humans out of the mud.
