Well I guess I'll post this again for page 2....
Has anyone driven a sports shifter transmission and if so how do you feel about driving it as a manual?

^^ In the lexus, I dislike it. In the mazda 3, I disliked it. In the Magnum and Charger, I disliked it. It's not quick enough in the fact that it doesn't shift precisely when I tell it to. There's always a "hesitation" if you will. Just try it for yourself. I don't like em

if you're talking about the manu-matic Prelude then it's pretty much crap. It's not a bad transmission but if you're looking for a manual, the Sport Shift won't give you what you're looking for.

Also, they were available through the 2001 model, not 99. I'd also recommend looking for a SH model if you can find one. I admit that I haven't kept up to date on the ATTS causing problems but it did make for a more enjoyable drive. SH had spoiler, thin 5-spoke wheels (vs. the twisted 5-spoke on the base/standard model), & body colored underbody kit.

As for the RSX & Celica, get the Type-S or GTS if you're wanting something that can really be considered sporty or quick. You're talking about taking 40+hp away from a couple of cars that really aren't that fast to begin with.

I've never driven a real DSG (sequential gearbox like in M3's etc) but the paddle/slap shift automatics are completely unresponsive

a sport shift transmission? wtf? Do you mean an automatic transmission you can shift yourself or a computer controlled clutch type?

Regardless, my brother has a red 1998 Prelude 5sp that he's looking to sell. 120k miles or so. It used to be my dad's car so its been in the family since new. Its been well cared for, though my brother hasn't really given a shit about keeping it clean.

I was looking into the 98-2000 model accord but can't find any 2 door manuals. The coupes I do find cost more then the prelude. Whats the deal, must be the 6 cylinders.

E46 M3s don't have a true SMG. It's still a conventional H-pattern manual, just automated.

They're better than a paddle-shifted automatic, because they don't have a torque converter (the worst out of an automatic's negative qualities), but I was still unimpressed when I drove my old roommate's E46 M3 SMG. It would be ok, I guess, once you got used to it...but I'd still rather have a conventional manual.

I draw the line between manual and automatic with the presence of a clutch or a torque converter. How the shifting is controlled is very much secondary.

[Edited on March 28, 2009 at 9:17 AM. Reason : also, shiftable automatics are stupid and pointless]
