It would be cool if people stated who did the suspending and what the reasons were.

It would go a long way to educating the user base about what is and isn't acceptable and would serve as a good catalog or reference about types of behavior that gets you suspenders.

i actually support making suspension information public. however, the reality is that suspensions are a complex issue and are not strictly based on a set of rules. there's always gonna be people pushing the limits and making a lot of noise

in addition to rotating/elected moderators, it would be interesting to see how getting the userbase more directly involved would work or not work. for instance, if there were a way for users to flag inappropriate threads or posts with some threshold where that post/thread/user would be automatically submitted to a queue for moderators to review. or when people were suspended or threads locked, a jury feature where people could respond with agreement or disagreement to the measure taken. and it would be helpful if the feature could target users who would most be interested in the issue (if you had posted in a locked thread or posted in a thread where a user was suspended from) and let them know so they could vote. not necessarily saying that user votes would automatically overturn mod decisions, but it would be useful to get more (and quantifiable) feedback

Not that I don't like the moderators, And I'm prolly gonna get flamed as a troller anyway. BUT... It seems to me that this site was founded on TRUELY free speach. I do remember when I initially signed up there was a huge warning message saying that this site may be VERY offensive.

I will say that politely asking each other to add the ole "NSFW" tag to threat subjects or not to use profanity there, is probably a good thing. But I'm not sure that any of it is REALLY in the spirit of Tdub.

tww back in the day did have some gross shit, but it was also moderated much better and the site was not dominated by these euphalo types

back in the day there were normal people on the site, even girls. the euphalo types ran off everyone, woodfoot was expressing a very widespread feeling that this site is trash now because of people that the moderators refuse to do anything about

if you want this site to have any chance of being relevant again for students or of getting new users, there has to be a major changes in the way moderating is done.


i mean christ, the fact that more than a few people suggested that BHS is a better poster than Woodfoot is a very telling example of what is wrong with this site today. Woodfoot is one of the few consistently quality posters; the trifecta of him, dweedle, and bigman have delivered more LOLs, ROTFLs, LMAOs, and full fledged Lollercausts than all of these new euphalo types combined.

TWW was built on the "less is more" approach to moderating. TWW made its name b/c people could come here and not be censored. So now you want us to put the heavy hand down b/c a few people cant stand a few images here and there?

why dont you guys, as a user base, make up your collective minds as to what kind of moderating you want to see? we cant please everyone anyways as there are always going to some users who cant stand to see anything gross and then those like BHS that gets his kicks from that stuff.

we moderators have lives...we dont get paid anything to do this job so when we arent online 24/7 policing every thread give us a break.

How many times does it have to be said that if someone posts something in a thread that offends you to PM a moderator?

Its not that hard....all you have to do is click on any of our user names and hit "Send a private message". How simple is that? you would think that this has become a lost art form.

i get all types of messages of bump this thread and that thread but hardly ever get PMs that address issues like those that have been posted in this thread.

It's not that more people were suspended or otherwise dealt with back then, it's that the problem users were basically given the ban hammer almost immediately. GroundZero was an obnoxious asshat, he got terminated. God posted goatsce all over the place, terminated. If they came back with different names and fucked around again, they were dealt with again.

Nowadays, we have RD get 17 chances to reform over the course of two years, and it looks like he is finally controlling himself, but its almost too late because the culture has already changed. People who were here before him and then new users attracted to the nonsense are all that have stuck around. Normal people who might have come on the site in the last two years saw chit chat, thought "WTF is this place?" and then didn't come back.

as far as I know no one is forced into being a moderator, so if you are too busy or unwilling to do it just ask them to pick someone else


I think everyone would like moderation like there used to be, ie constant problem posters getting dealt with quickly and moderators not using their power to "win" personal disagreements.
