- Fiesta Mexicana (Cary, Clayton, N Raleigh?) are awesome
- Farmers Market (both the breakfast and seafood places)

most of these were mentioned on the first page i think but some didn't get put into the second page list!

the raleigh times, the globe, the rockford (said multiple times), irregardless, humble pie, bloomsbury bistro, NOFO, moonlight pizza, lilly's (again), the pit, fat daddy's, cafe tiramisu is a n. raleigh favorite, wildflour pizza (also a north raleigh favorite), neomonde's, moe joe's, shucker's (that is way far away in wake forest, but good), 2nd empire, 42nd street, fins, i like caffe luna (some people don't), 518 west (i also like this, some people don't)

^oops that post was actually me. but yes if you mean chain as in more than one location, i guess it used to be...kinda. there used to be another fat daddy's in north raleigh in like, the 80s. and maybe one east of raleigh somewhere. i am pretty sure it was started locally though by the 42nd street guy BUT i don't know. anyway, maybe it is a chain now. i do not know!

well i meant north north raleigh like more where i live toward 540. i did not know they had any other locations besides the one that is off 70 (anymore). but was it not started by the 42nd street/angus barn ppl? where are the other locations?

marko thanks for your response. I was hoping to find a good country restaurant, but I just went with Babymoon cafe in morrisville. I was impressed and like it a lot, but it's not country cooking!

Most of the people I know from Raleigh are talking about NE Raleigh when they speak of North Raleigh.

Putting that aside, Fat Daddy's is awesome, but is not a chain.

I say N. Raleigh is everything east of Glenwood Avenue...West of Capital Blvd...and North of 440.

i think that where the fat daddy's is (the only one that exists currently, that i'm aware of, because i don't know) is borderline north raleigh. or WAS borderline north raleigh. but just the way it has grown, that area is so much closer to "raleigh" (aka downtown) than north raleigh is (anymore i mean...all of it used to be way out there, even fat daddy's). but now north of 540 has grown a lot. it is still pretty far out though. but i don't really know when you start calling glenwood 70. whenever you start calling it 70 gets close to north raleigh which gets close to durham.

Most people in that area don't start calling Glenwood 70 until you're past Brier Creek. I think it's a stretch to say anything before Brier Creek is not somehow considered North Raleigh.

i always called that (pleasant valley) area of glendwood 70. unless i called it pleasant valley--but that died, long long ago. brier creek 70 IS durham. i dunno though. i think that the blueridge/duraleigh/millbrook intersection of "glenwood" is getting close to calling it just plain 70. and anything past that is tres north raleigh. to me.

my parents live outside 540 though so maybe it is different if you live farther away than normal north raleigh.

Yeah, I lived near the Pleasant Valley area for 15 years. That's definitely considered Glenwood to people living there lol.

haha that is what i assumed (we just called it different). i lived in north north raleigh (outside 540, but not to wake forest or creedmoor). we called pleasant valley area pleasant valley, crabtree toward downtown glenwood, and anything passed pleasant valley (toward durham) 70. like angus barn is off 70 (to me).

i don't know what is between pleasant valley and the angus barn area now...you can get to like the huge target and raleigh grande stuff easily from there now. i don't know if much else has gone up besides the usual carpet/mattress shop

but we were way outsiders. everyone i went to high school with was from ITB (inside the beltline) and i was outside the outer loop. talk about a reject

Someone up a decent ways mentioned 5 Star. I'm not in Raleigh now, but liked going there when I was. I thought it closed though...I don't know where I heard that though. Is it open now?

When the chef was opening a restaurant in North HIlls, the food/service @ 5Star sort of took a nose dive.


It WAS supposed to close years ago b/c the city needed the area for a new train depot. My brother had a record store around the corner from 5 Star and the city offered him $$$ to close down so that they could open their new train depot. He took the $$$ and moved his store to Hillsborough St. That was back in like 2003ish and there has been no developments on the depot. 5 Star was smart to stick it out.


I live near Brier Creek and I consider BC to be North Glenwood. I consider anything past Brier Creek to be 70.

has anyone tried Sitti on wilmington st? rolled by there last night and it looked busy, sidewalk cafe looked nice. apparently it is lebanese food.

yes--we had dinner there (party of 10--reservation of course) about 3 weekends ago for my bachelorette party. VERY good food...great atmosphere...average prices...great service. it's loud, so if you're looking for a quiet place this isn't it. apparently the beer garden is open, but there was a private party so we didn't go in there.

the dill sauce and garlic whip is nomlicious and of course, their hummus b/c she's ^ right--it's associated with neomonde, and they are part of the restaurant group that owns the raleigh times, the pit, duck & dumpling

Haven't been for dinner, but I've been to Sitti for lunch and I'd agree with everything said above. Food was delicious, atmosphere was good, service was good. Empire Eats (the group that owns Sitti and the others mentioned) does a good job in general, and the Neomonde folks know how to make some tasty food. Great combo.

I'll agree with the overrated part. Pulled pork was barely edible, sides were small and straight out of golden corral. my brisket was maybe a 5/10... a little too "falling apart" for me. Not worth the price, and I just don't see the hype at all.

Try Nana's in Durham, I haven't heard that mentioned yet.

There is a great little pub on Blount St called "Tir Na Nog." It's a nice restaurant/bar on the inside with a great tasting menu, a ton of beers to try, and really great atmosphere. I recommend it

I've been to Sitti 3 times in the last month, lol. LOVE IT. Its really good. If you like Med/Greek food its perfect for you.

And I can't believe nobody's mentioned Piccolo Italia over in Cameron Village. Great Italian food, fair prices, and amazing pizza.
