If it's something completely random, then sure it's a little weird. But I imagine most people have a reason for their choice. I'm getting the motto from my family crest, which is in Latin.

That doesn't include Chinese symbols ... I doubt most white college kids who think "oooh I want a tattoo!" have any major connection to that culture.
