I did enjoy season two a lot more. But im still holding out hope there are some good surprises coming up, im sure there are though. The things i know - angel comes back (duh) and leaves (duh), willow becomes a with, buffy and spike hook up. The storyline that i really hope develops is oz, they were like hey hes a werewolf then ignored it since. But it does have me hooked. 4/23/2009 11:24:45 PM |

Just finished Season 2. I was going to go to bed after that but I have to watch at least 3x01 just because of the cliffhanger.

Oh yeah. I actually enjoyed it as opposed to just tolerating it like S1.

I've always wanted to watch them, I've just never got around to it. But now I've got a little extra time on my hands and nothing else to watch at the moment. It was either Buffy or all of Battlestar Galactica again, so I decided to watch something I've never seen.
And yeah, I really could have done without knowing the spoiler about Buffy and Spike. I guess it's not the biggest deal, but I do wish people would try to be a little bit considerate in this thread.4/24/2009 3:00:42 AM |

I just needed a new show to watch. I watch ridiculous amounts of tv and typically always have some show playing on the pc while im doing work. Hulu just added seasons 1-3 so that sparked my viewing. Combined with recently starting to watch Dollhouse so I decided to give something else by Joss Whedon. 4/24/2009 6:15:50 AM |

Okay one thing that has me confused - they say that there is only one slayer in the beginning (although there are more, at least im assuming there are more elsewhere), and that if she dies then she will be replaced. So buffy "dies", kendra replaces her. Then kendra dies and faith replaces her. Does nobody pay attention to the fact that buffy is still alive? Whenever a new slayer shows up they act like its no big deal at all. 4/24/2009 6:56:56 PM |
agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
well, the new slayer is somehow called up "automatically" when a slayer dies, kind of a mystical thing. So when Buffy momentarily died, her line ended, and now there is a new line following Kendra and Faith. There are more slayers constantly in training, but one of them is chosen whenever the current slayer dies. They never show the choosing process - it's just assumed that it's kind of one of those things that a slayer "just knows" when it is her turn.
this was kind of my point back on page 1, that it's something you have to overlook - The Watcher's Council, who's only apparent job is to train watchers and monitor the slayer, is incredibly hands off and inept at their job.
But if you overlook that, it's no big deal, really. Technically, Faith is now "the Slayer", but since Buffy is alive again, she is now a Slayer, one of two - still all the same powers and whatnot. Faith's story plays out for another couple seasons, then they basically just go back to focusing on Buffy, and you can more or less view her as the only slayer. 4/24/2009 7:14:03 PM |
dzags18 All American 5694 Posts user info edit post |
Oh okay, I had just assumed that there were really multiple slayers out there, each had different areas or something. That was just something I was expecting, but I guess I was wrong
I am liking this season though with a main bad guy and his storyline though I'm not sure how far El Nacho is so I don't want to discuss it too much.
But I don't like Faiths role so far. Shes off and on, why is she not with their group more? 4/24/2009 7:20:39 PM |

cause she's a mutha' fuckin' renagade!
nah, you'll like her. well, maybe not personally like the character, but her story lines get crazy.
I know her attitude of "i'm so bad and non-conformist, you'll just have to deal with it" can get annoying, but it plays out well in the end.

agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
damn, you're really burning through this stuff.
The Wish was good - i like episodes like that too. One of my favorite episodes is in S6 called Tabula Rasa, where all the main characters get their memories erased, and they try to piece together their lives and relationships based on what they're wearing and clues they can find. i guess that's another type of alternate universe story line.
I think you're pretty close to where S3 starts to really ramp up, and there will be some new characters coming that you'll really enjoy. I won't be giving anything away here, but pay attention to Wesley Wyndham-Price when he shows up in a few episodes, and study how his character changes over the years. I think he has one of the most remarkable, yet believable character arcs ever written. 4/24/2009 11:47:58 PM |

Mild spoilers for dzags18 if you haven't gotten this far...
So I got to something I don't quite understand. At the end of 3x15 Wesley is trying to carry Faith off to England to be judged and she escaped and went on the run. Then at the start of the next episode, it's like all is forgotten and everything's back to normal.
What's up with that? 4/25/2009 6:03:10 PM |
agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
i don't recall exactly - are you sure you're watching them in order. I don't remember a continuity error that big.
check the episode titles here to see if they're in the right order. http://www.hulu.com/buffy-the-vampire-slayer 4/25/2009 6:42:58 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
Yep. At first I thought I was watching them out of order too, but I checked the episode descriptions on imdb and they match up. 3x15 and 16. At the end of 15 (around 36:00) Faith takes out the watcher guy and forces Wesley to unchain her so she can escape, and at the start of 16 (6:20), she walks in the Library with him like they're bffs.
Wesley's last words to her in 15 are "You can't keep running" which implies ...well that she'd need to keep running. And then nothing.
And now that I've watched the next couple of episodes, this little hole is getting big enough to drive a Mack truck through. ] 4/25/2009 8:40:52 PM |

**** S3 E15 SPOILER ****
ok, just watched those parts again. I guess you have a point, but you kind of skipped over the last part of E15, after Faith escaped. Buffy found her at the dock before she left, then Faith saved Buffy from the Mayor's vamp henchmen. Then, Faith went to talk to the Mayor and "offered her services" to him. Meanwhile, Buffy and Giles were still determined to save her. So, I guess it is safe to assume that, 1) once Faith decided to be a double agent, she started playing nice with the scooby gang, and 2) Buffy+Giles convinced Wesley to forgive-and-forget. But your overall point still stands - seems like they should have at least given a scene with Faith and Wesley for a re-introduction after she almost killed him. 4/25/2009 9:03:13 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah. That's the logical jump to make, and I agree that's probably what happened. It just seems like an awful lot of stuff to just leave for the viewers to have to infer.
But ignoring that, this season is spectacular. 4/25/2009 9:17:42 PM |

Angel S1 is a bit like Buffy S1 - it's not as campy or corny as Buffy S1, but it is pretty much monster of the week stuff. Then in S2 it picks up with the season-long story lines 4/26/2009 8:59:19 AM |

Yeah. When Spike was trying to get his ring back. I just liked the opening scene where Spike was watching Angel save the chick from the rooftop and he was giving his MST3K style commentary. haha, just re-watched that scene - Spike, as the girl talking to Angel: "It's ok, I have a gay nephew"
just remembered some things about Buffy S4. Overall, it's not the strongest season (not up to S2 or 3), but it does have some of the best overall individual episodes. S4 E10 Hush is in probably any fan's top-5 or 3 lists. Supposedly it was a shoo-in for an Emmy for best directing or writing or something, but someone screwed up and didn't submit the episode to the academy in time. Also, the season finale is amazing, i think. The season ends in a different way than other seasons, and the last episode is pretty much a hilarious mind-bender. 4/28/2009 12:34:58 PM |

Just finished Season 4. The finale was ... odd. I didn't really like it at all actually.
As far as the Initiative stuff, I didn't really love that either. When I said I liked it, I was just to the part where they had discovered it, and I liked the idea of the entire frat house being a team of commandos that ran covert-ops out of a secret underground facility underneath their house. Of course nothing can be as it seems on Buffy.

wait, there are people who don't like Restless? it's like a top-5 episode. 5/1/2009 11:19:08 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
Not my top 5, that's for sure. It felt too much like a David Lynch movie for my liking. Maybe if I watched it 3-4 more times to figure out all the subtleties and hidden meanings of everything then I'd like it more, but I don't really like being made to feel like I need to study something in order to understand it. I could tell that there was more going on in that episode than the stuff you see at face value, but in the end, I just really didn't care. I did like the cheese slice dude though, cause I'm pretty sure there wasn't a hidden meaning behind that one and he was just some random dude that really liked cheese slices. And that's a cause that I can get behind.
I think when I finish these last 2 episodes of S1 Angel I'm gonna take a break for a week or so. Maybe part of my problem is that I've over-Buffyfied myself. 5/1/2009 11:25:56 PM |

you'll appreciate it more after seeing the following seasons. lots of subtle foreshadowing in there 5/1/2009 11:32:31 PM |
agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
^^ yeah, Whedon has confirmed several times that there was no hidden message with the cheese guy. he just thought it was funny.
and I did forget about the foreshadowing. rewatching it after just a few episodes of S5 you would pick up on several more things, particularly in the conversations between Buffy and Faith. Then there is the whole numbers game - a lot of numbers thrown out in Buffy's sequence begin countdowns that aren't revealed until season 6. I think their importance, though, were really only significant when the events of all the seasons are watched, or at least interpreted, in "real time." i.e. each season taking a full, literal year to unfold.
Hush (S4), The Body (S5), and Once More With Feeling (S6) are all pretty standard top-5 episodes for most fans. I would definitely add Restless to that list, and some S2/3 episodes like What's My Line 1/2, Surprise/Innocence, and The Zeppo. 5/2/2009 12:03:01 AM |

You know, if you're gonna have an episode with a dramatic re-appearance of a major character from seasons past, and you'd like it to be a surprise to people that are watching for the first time, why would you have that character as the central focus of the episode selection screen on the DVD?
I mean, I guess as far as spoilers go, that's pretty low key, but I wouldn't have minded actually having the ability to be surprised at the appropriate times. 5/15/2009 8:44:02 PM |
agentlion All American 13936 Posts user info edit post |
where are you now? What episode?
I'm guessing the people who produce the DVDs aren't really paying attention to that. If Whedon was creating them, it would probably be different.

Yeah, I read TV Squad too. I've got those bookmarked to read for when I finish up.
Right now I'm watching S04E14 of Angel. After finishing Angel S4, I have S7 of Buffy and S5 of Angel, then I'll be done. I'm not hating S4 as much as most everyone says I would. I've just got to the part where I figure out who the bad guy (girl) of the season is, and Connor is pretty much so as annoying as everyone says he is, but overall I'm not hating it at all. Maybe the 2nd half of the season ends up sucking ass and ruining the whole season overall, but so far I'm enjoying it. 5/15/2009 10:01:53 PM |

I didn't hate it. After all the stuff I read about it on here I was expecting to really not like it, but it was alright. Dawn was pretty annoying. It was like now that they got rid of Glory and Dawn no longer had a purpose they didn't really know what to do with that character but just make her whine all the time about how she wasn't a real girl, and nobody wanted to hang out with her and wah wah waaah. I didn't really magic=drugs and drugs are bad Willow plotline. I would have expected Willow to be evil for a little bit longer (although I don't know what happens in S7 yet) and all of that sorta seemed to wrap up a little bit too quickly for my tastes. Overall I liked S6, and I'm looking forward to starting S7 to see the aftermath of everything.
Oh, and as a general rule, I loathe musicals, and I tend to disagree with the popular opinion on things more often than not, but Once More With Feeling was AWESOME. 5/15/2009 10:36:50 PM |
