Look, no one has ever picked on you on here because of your unusually large physical size, but I've noticed that you post an awful lot of incorrect nutritional advice on here. Do you really think someone obese should be handing out eating suggestions or lambasting avocados? Because I'd strongly advise anyone on here to do exactly the opposite of what you say regarding nutrition. 4/29/2009 10:01:06 PM

there are plenty of ways to consume avocados without them being paired with foods that are high in saturated fat.
for instance, we've started subbing it for the usual tbsp of light miracle whip on a sandwich - delicious!
plenty of ppl use guacamole in healthy, homemade bean burritos. if you make it yourself it's from all good, fresh ingredients.
or you can embrace your avocado and make frosting out of it:

Just made an avocado-banana shake now, and was one of the best ones I have ever had.
Milk, 8-10 oz Coconut milk, 6 oz Avocado, 2 Banana, 2 Honey, 5 T
OMFG amazing
That recipe made four 8 oz servings, but I typically like to drink 12-16 oz ![](images/angel.gif)

There's a huge amount of obsession with avocados as the new power food (I guess they replaced acai berries in fads?), but the idea of a sweet avocado or an avocado shakes sounds kinda repulsive I prefer my avocados on sammiches with lettuce and honey mustard, or mushed up in a bowl with some salsa 12/3/2013 9:56:52 PM

But you would gladly eat a maple bacon cupcake, right? Read the thread, several people said what you said, but once they tried it, they liked it.
I prefer it with banana, as banana gives the familiar and traditional pronounced banana shake flavor. A plain avocado only shake doesn't have much flavor, as avocados don't have much flavor to begin with, although it still nice. Avocado mango is also nice, but only if you can find some delicious juicy sweet mangos. Another nice alternative is avocado date, and then you don't have to add any sweetener, or even dates as a sweetener in an avocado banana shake.
Try the recipe I just gave. Adjust quantities. You can use brown sugar, dates, or maple syrup to sweeten.
Another amazing sweet way to try them is to cut them in quarters, skin off. You want them to be a bit firm, not as ripe as you would want for a shake or guacamole. Then in the central pit, put a dollop of Greek yogurt, and then drizzle some honey or maple syrup on top. Simply pick up a quarter and eat!
As a superfood fad, avocado is old news. All the hip people have moved on to mulberries, maca, camu camu, maqui berries, and others more exotic fruits, avocado is just plain and mundane! I just eat what I like, regardless of whether it is a fad or not. 12/4/2013 9:15:09 AM

This one uses avocado, banana, and also cocoa powder, hmmm... http://www.mynewroots.org/site/2010/06/raw-chocolate-milkshake-miracle-2/
^^ More sugar than one should consume in a day? Where are you getting that from? I added 2 bananas and 5 tbsp honey, and that made 4 servings. So you are saying a 1/4 banana and 1 tbsp honey is more sugar than one should consume in a day?
As for fat, again, you don't have to add coconut milk, I just wanted to try a twist. Also, you can use low fat or skim milk if you are so concerned. So, it just comes down to 1/4 avocado in that shake, and a bit of fat from the milk. Again, I don't see the massive amount of fat you are seeing. And anyway, go to the previous page to read my post about the type of fat and stuff.
Also, if you are having a rich shake like that, it should replace half of your lunch or dinner, whenever you are having it. Or, it should be your breakfast. Of course, if you are having it on top of your normal consumption, you are taking in too many calories. 12/4/2013 1:43:42 PM

i was actually referring to the original recipe given by wolfpackgrr that used sweetened condensed milk. I wasn't criticizing your smoothie. but my own personal daily goal for sugar is 46 grams, which I usually exceed with just fruit and vegetables.
so just for fun, let's look at your smoothie.
8 oz of milk, assuming you used 1%, has 13 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fat. 6 oz coconut milk, 6 grams of sugar, 36 grams of fat. 2 avocados, 2 g sugar, 58 grams of fat. 2 large bananas, 34 grams of sugar. 5 T honey, 51 grams of sugar.
so our fat and total count for the entire recipe is 106 grams of sugar, 96 grams of fat.
so lets say we split it, as you claim you often do. that's 53 grams of sugar and 48 grams of fat (757 calories total). fortunately, i've got 29 grams of fat left, so I can drizzle a bit of olive oil on my salad, but I'd better not even eat a tomato for the rest of the day, as i've blown my sugar by 23 grams by the time I eat the lowest sugar meals I can think of to round out my day (2 x 5 oz spinach, 4 oz chicken, 2 cups brown rice, .75 tbsp oil and lemon juice). so actually, yes, your smoothie, as you claim to drink it, does contain more sugar than the standard daily recommendation for a 2300 calorie diet.
of course your nutrition goals are very different from mine, but a lot of those chemical-free-life-nuts are claiming we should be eating less than 25 grams of sugar (yes, total sugar, not added sugar) per day. a giant salad's worth of vegetables might go over that, forget a very large banana.
Frozen strawberries are my fruit of choice for smoothies, a pound has the same amount of sugar as 1.5 bananas. I also love frozen cherries, but those are a lot sweeter. I do like adding raw cocoa though, and i use sugar-free hemp protein instead of banana to make a creamy base.
and I'll be eating some avocado (florida, not haas) tonight with my pumpkin enchiladas. hope i can restrain myself from adding too much cheese ![](images/frown.gif) 12/4/2013 4:09:38 PM

Just about every night I have a shake consisting of: water, a tiny amount of half and half, protein powder, 1 frozen banana, peanut butter. I occasionally throw something else in there, and avocados are one of the most common things that I add if we have them around. Simple and really good. 12/4/2013 5:01:54 PM

Well yeah, that's cuz I am greedy and I love that shake.
Not exercising proper portion control is not the fault of the food item itself!
But also, as I said earlier, because it is such a rich shake, it should replace half your dinner (or lunch, if having it earlier in the day). Even better, it should be your breakfast so that you can burn through it.
I did drink about 13 oz, but I also ate just half (less than half actually) of my normal amount at dinner. So there you go, while I was greedy, I did make the proper adjustment to the rest of my intake. 12/4/2013 5:33:11 PM

Thanks to this thread, I made my first avocado smoothie this morning and it was delicious. Mine was 1/2 an avocado, probably 5 TBSP egg whites, 1 scoop About Time birthday cake protein powder, 1/2 banana, splash of vanilla, couple drops stevia, and crushed ice (my banana wasn't frozen). Creamy, frothy, and amazing thanks, tdub.
I have no idea of the macro counts on this shake, nor do I really care - I know I got an assload of protein, healthy fats, and a whole bunch of micronutrients in, plus it felt like heaven sliding down my gullet, so I'm pretty pleased. Greenjay, feel free to weigh in 12/4/2013 7:38:50 PM

I have made it twice more since 12/3 when I posted here. Both times it was with mango and banana, and I also added some ground fried turmeric. That gave it a nice deep yellow color, and a barely (if at all) noticeable taste. Turmeric is the most powerful substance you can eat to keep your brain, heart, and arteries young and to ward of Alzheimer's. 12/15/2013 4:38:56 PM

A must have for any avocado lover... probably the best avocado milk shake in the world! This is a meal unto itself, and can easily be had for dessert by 2 people!
Ingredients: Avocado Milk Honey
And the following garnishes: Strawberries Soaked cashews Soaked pine nuts More honey Rustic cream (OMG!!!) (this for me is the best part)
Looks even better in a glass instead of the take-away cup.
Once you have this, avocado milkshake at any other place will just not do!
