Quote : | "Giants Denied Giunta Permission to Talk to Other Teams: Newsday is reporting that Giants’ Cornerbacks Coach Peter Giunta was a candidate for a defensive coordinator vacancy with another team, but the Giants denied him permission to interview. The New York Post says that both the Rams and Packers were interested in Giunta.
“You’re hurt, you’re upset by the situation but you deal with it,” said Giunta. “I had other opportunities - people wanted me to go other places to coordinate, but Coach (Coughlin) wanted me to stay here. Him, (General Manager) Jerry Reese and (President/CEO) John Mara wanted me to stay. It was a great compliment, because Tom wanted me to stay here. He said we’re so close to coming back and winning another championship here, he didn’t want to break up the staff. He wanted to keep as much continuity as he could.”" |

The guy is under contract and it is up to the discretion of the Giants organization to let him interview or not. I don't believe this will add up to anything in the end. 5/14/2009 4:11:45 PM |

Not much going on in Giants land right now except they moved to the new practice facility and it looks pretty damn bad ass. You can see some pictures and images at giants.com.
They also went with FieldTurf for the field at the new stadium. Would have been bad ass if they could pull off what Arizona does with their real grass, but that's pretty expensive and I imagine wouldn't work out so well in the Northeast. 5/20/2009 11:42:44 AM |

^ You a Giants fan or just trolling?
So yeah, he got a huge contract, but what are you going to do, release him instead? The dude is going to demand a huge contract because he is a franchise QB, and definitely at least top 10 in the league. Next year Rothlisburger or Rivers will get an even bigger contract probably just because that's how it works. You just have to pay someone that is this important to his team.
Do I think he deserves to be the highest paid player in the NFL? No.
Do I think he's worth that much money for the Giants? Yes. Why? Because saving $15 million per year so that David Carr can start is not worth it. Eli may not be the best at the position, but I think he is smart, knows the play book, knows his players very well, and does a good job at his position for the most part. 8/6/2009 12:30:45 PM |

So because you believe Rothlisburger is a better QB, Manning is an idiot because he gets paid more? I think you just sound stupid. Rothlisburger will most likely sign a contract next year that will be worth more anyway, that's just how it works. 8/6/2009 4:26:55 PM |

i think youre blowing this out of proportion. why are you name calling broski. i didnt do anything to you.
im really just saying this because there needs to be a salary cap for people who only play 16-20 weeks out of a year. 8/6/2009 6:38:35 PM |

^ Oh, so your issue is just with salaries of NFL players as a whole. I have never understood this arguement since NFL players typically get paid way less than players of the other major sports (not including hockey), compounded with they play for a significantly less amount of time (avg. career is 4 years).
I think the NFL has it right with the salary cap structure for teams, but I think its f'ed up when it comes to how the rookie's are getting paid these days.
So anyway, training camp is underway as from the reports I have read the defense is looking great and the offense is looking shitty. No one has gotten injured in camp though which is great. 8/7/2009 10:52:28 AM |

Freaking Hicks is not practicing because of a hamstring injury. Holy shit every year we lose a rookie WR to hamstring injuries that nag the entire season, so frustrating. Hopefully this one won't be as bad as those before, but he has already missed multiple practices and is listed as "day to day."
Good news is that none of the injuries so far are devastating. Also Kenny Phillips is looking like an absolute monster on defense during this camp. So pumped to see him on opening day light up some dudes. 8/10/2009 1:32:46 PM |

Time to bump this thread up for the start of the season.
btw...I have tickets to see the Giants play at Washington on Monday Night Football on December 21...can't wait!!!
* Week 1 - Giants vs. Redskins * Week 2 - Giants @ Cowboys * Week 3 - Giants @ Buccaneers * Week 4 - Giants @ Chiefs * Week 5 - Giants vs. Raiders * Week 6 - Giants @ Saints * Week 7 - Giants vs. Cardinals * Week 8 - Giants @ Eagles * Week 9 - Giants vs. Chargers * Week 10 - BYE * Week 11 - Giants vs. Falcons * Week 12 - Giants @ Broncos * Week 13 - Giants vs. Cowboys * Week 14 - Giants vs. Eagles * Week 15 - Giants @ Redskins * Week 16 - Giants vs. Panthers * Week 17 - Giants @ Vikings
My predictions: 13-3, 1st place NFC East Justin Tuck Defensive Player of the Year Hakim Nicks (potentially) Offensive Rookie of the Year
I see us getting to at least the NFC Championship, if not the Super Bowl
Could this be the year Manning and Rivers finally prove which team made the better trade? Week 9 could very well be a Super Bowl preview. 9/10/2009 4:03:42 AM |

Fortunately this year we have an even deeper defense than normal, if Canty can get healthy, we will have a pretty disgusting defensive line...hell its already mean...
I think the key for us this year is establishing a significant WR presence, one that can draw double coverage at times, or at least take a guy out of the box. Our rushing game was so successful because of Burress, without him, teams like the Eagles could bring an 8th guy down and shut down our run progress. I think Nicks can be that player, he has looked good in camp, and in pre-season games, and hopefully we can establish and offensive rythym like last year that can carry us far. 9/10/2009 8:43:27 AM |

Although you probably won't be able to determine this until their careers end...I find it hard to believe that you could confidently say at this point that the Giants will be able to say they made the better trade. And that's just looking at the past few years and projecting their remaining futures. And I'm about as far from a Rivers-homer as you're going to get. I constantly get shit for not defending him in the River-lovefest threads.9/10/2009 12:43:43 PM |

Manning SB Rings: 1 Rivers SB Rings: 0
So far, Eli's in the lead.
Besides, no one ever seems to want to notice how much improvement Eli makes every year. Last season he cut his interceptions in half, raised his rating 13 points, and raised his completion percentage 4 points. (Rivers' numbers were overall better, however you can contribute many of his 34 touchdowns to the drop in LT's performance)

I think Eli was a great addition to the team and will continue to grow and become an even better QB. If you compare the manning brothers, Eli, and the highly revered Peyton, you will see Eli is ahead of his brother at comparative times in their careers, Eli won a superbowl already, and is part of a very successful franchise. 9/10/2009 2:46:27 PM |

^^^I'll concede the Super Bowl ring argument. But Eli was able to make all of those improvements because his numbers sucked pretty damn bad before that. Oh wow...he cut his interceptions in half...that was able to happen because he threw a shitload of interceptions the year before. And yeah Philip had a lot of TDs...because he had to carry the team. I don't think Eli is capable of carrying a team....yet.
^The Colts were absolute shit when they drafted Peyton. Eli had a much better supporting cast. 9/10/2009 5:34:46 PM |

Eli has a Super Bowl ring, a Super Bowl MVP award, comeback after huge ass comeback under his belt, and is widely regarded as one of the best character guys in the NFL. Its pretty much like having a coach on the field.
Philip has a strong arm and one of the worst attitudes/tempers of any starting quarterback in the NFL. His team has had the offense and defense to make it to the big dance, but Philip hasn't gotten them there.
How this is even a discussion at this point in their careers is hilarious to me.
Any GM in the NFL would take Eli over Philip in a heartbeat. 9/11/2009 12:29:06 PM |

Rivers has far better raw numbers. Eli is actually an average to slightly below average QB by the numbers. I give him credit for catching lightning in a bottle for four weeks. Besides those four weeks he probably wouldn't be making anywhere near the money he has.
And Rivers has a bad attitude? You bought the media drivel hook, line and sinker... good job.

I guess you would say he has a bad temper because he's ultra-competitive and he sticks up for his teammates. The whole Cutler thing was a little immature...but I personally liked the fire.
Eli has often been criticized for his lack of leadership. I'm sure it's improved over the last year or two...but I'd much rather have a QB with Philips attitude/personality than a laid-back Eli.9/11/2009 12:36:13 PM |

the result didn't really matter to him, just selling 105,000+ tickets.

Personally, I'd rather have a competitor who isn't worried about the team that drafted him than a guy who whines, complains, cries and bitches until him and his Daddy get his way. Much higher character guy.
