Rangers should win the world series just by virtue of the claw and antlers.

I count three in '98 who were healthy and 36+ with an OPS > .800, and Tony Gwynn wasn't even that healthy

Not sure what the point is

Nice selective sampling there

I count eight such players in 2004 alone

98 was pretty much the peak of guys staying around longer than they should to swallow horse pills and hit home runs

I've been Verducci'd

[Edited on August 17, 2010 at 4:15 PM. Reason : But nice selective sampling to you as well]

Hamilton is batting .361 with 32 homers and 97 RBIs.

He is pretty much a lock for AL MVP at this point.

No he's not

He has Cabrera beat in average and plays on a better team, but Cabrera leads in everything else.

^his team is leading the division and he's a better defender.

I think he's clear cut unless he goes on a horrendous slump and Cabrera just tears it up this last month.

Defense is almost never a consideration for MVP, especially when you're talking about LF vs. 1B. And anyway I don't think that Hamilton has done a better job defensively than Cabrera.

I'm not saying Hamilton won't win, he probably will, but it's definitely not a lock. The Tigers are out of it, but Cabrera has been the more valuable player by almost every measurement and his raw stats, except for average, are all better than Hamilton's.

Miguel Cabrera is drastically behind Josh in pretty much all defensive statisics. Not saying that Josh is that amazing of a fielder, he's slightly above average but Cabrera is a butcher.

It's "MVP" not "offensive MVP." if i had to guess I would say that they look at all statistics. Anyway, he may start to sit more towards the end of the season (once they know they completely have it locked) to rest his knee for the playoffs.

Hamilton should start just calling out everyone in the league. Numbers don't matter as long as you put your name out there. Just look at Jimmy Rollins.

they were planning on sitting him more until playoffs. i think he will be fine. he will play through it if he is not.

we just need the rangers to get their act together and start winning these games.

What? Usually with baseball you are spot on but Hamilton has played great in CENTER and left this year with Borbon not living up to his potential. He has 9 OF assists with his cannon and has made some great plays. He goes on defense too hard and that's why he has gotten hurt both times this year.

Hamilton>Cabrera

"9 OF assists"

lol. is this like football where when nobody throws to your side of the field it's a good thing? i hope that was your argument, because the record for most in a game is 3, so 9 in a season sounds pretty easy.. unless of course, they're all scared. But yeah, I'd probably take Hamilton > Cabrera, but maybe that's just ESPN White Person Playoff Contender Hype

^What?

Shin-Soo Choo leads with 12 and Josh is 4th. Even still most of the time they don't run on him. You do know he can throw like 90-95 right?

[Edited on September 6, 2010 at 3:16 AM. Reason : If 9 is easy, then how come only 3 more in all of baseball have more?]

Didn't realize Hamilton had played significant time in center, that helps. But what I was trying to get across was that they play the two easiest positions, and neither are gold glove-type fielders. Defensive contribution is such an insignificant factor in MVP voting, I don't think it's going to affect the race at all.

Look, I fucking HATE the Yankees

but CJ Wilson was leaving damn near everything at the belt. . . it was a fucking flat out ghostly jinx that the Yanks weren't already clobbering him. They caught on pretty quick when every bullpen lackey went out there and followed suit.

Sucks, but the Yanks are just fucking good, and Texas just knew they had this shit wrapped up in the 7th.

That would be two-days rest but they don't play Thursday even.

He'd have to go on three days rest, which he still won't do (they'd save him for a potential Game 7 I'm sure).
