^^lol, the button is ftw. i got to the point where hitting in every 8 minutes on the dot was practically second nature. the real fun starts when you step up to dilaudid in the pca, still get a shot of morphine every hour, and two percocets every 4 hours.
as bad as mine was, there's always plenty of people that have had it far worse, though. really, in the scheme of things, i've been very fortunate. i kept a leg that was destined for amputation. i could have easily been paralyzed, suffered brain damage (i guess that one is debatable, lol), or even paid the ultimate price of my life.
as much as it may not seem like it to adam8778 right now, i'd say the same is true for this situation. being sure to keep things in that perspective is half the battle of the recovery. losing sight of the big picture will ruin you in a hurry mentally. counting down days until you're "healed" can be a big downfall as well. i did it for a long time, and set myself up for some big let downs and a lot of frustration in the process. looking back, i get a good laugh out of how distraught i was over being told it would probably be a whole SIX MONTHS before i could walk "normally" again. that six months came and went more than once. i finally learned to just take each day as it comes. appreciate progress when it's made, but don't expect it to come on your schedule. hope for the best, but expect the worst is how the saying goes i think?
if he's anything like me, the reality of the situation probably hasn't fully sunk in yet. the days/weeks/months ahead will be much harder, believe it or not. he's likely just happy it wasn't any worse, a little bit excited in a morbid way about cool new injuries/battle wounds, and pumping himself up to face this daunting new challenge while kicking its ass in record time. oh, and main lining strong opiates every few minutes kinda has the tendency to keep you in a happy cloud also.

good points BBR
I know Ive got it way better than you did. ive weaned myself off of all but the perocets, i hated the way the morphine pump made me feel.
i am seeing very small improvements every day, dont expect any giant breaktroughs. i do already feel very fortunate that i had no internal/ spine/head injuries. i have been having some blood problems that i thnk might be sorting themselves out, i hope.
might get to go home sometime early next week ifi can get some blood issues under control and get more proficient with the walker. 6/13/2009 9:32:02 AM |

you need the ramp about 30 feet from the porch, so he has to get up enough speed to jump the gap, that how real ballas do it, like this:
