Curious as to why the Volvo didn't make the list--I don't really like the S40 (too small, interior doesnt feel premium) but the S60 is a really nice car. A friend was considering them last year and I test-drove a couple--responsive, reasonably sharp handling, nice ride. I think they are attractive on the outside and the interior is just outstanding--nice materials, well finished, and very comfortable. If you can find one with the sports package, not only do you get bigger tires/wheels and some suspension tweaks, but you also get some of the most comfortable front seats I've ever sat in. Really nice cars IMO.7/8/2009 12:03:18 AM |

hey dee how much country roads and how much around town?
reason I ask is if you do a lot of highway did you think of the hybrid, and did you think of the tax break that comes with it.

of my daily 46 mile commute (round trip), 12 miles are on country back roads going 60 mph, 28 miles are on the interstate going ~78 mph, and the remaining 6 are city driving going 35-45 mph.
During the weekend, I either drive from Goldsboro to Raleigh via Hwy 70 and I40, roughly 65 miles each way or run around town here in Goldsboro.
The hybrid hasn't come up in any of our talks, but I can't give you a definite reason why. I, myself, know nothing about the tax break.

although, i love my GT, she gets me where i need to go without any problems *knocks on wood and sends good car karma to the stang* but it's time to grow up and advance to the finer things in life, especially those with more room and comfort and higher gas mileage

I get an average of 22 mpg with my G35 coupe. I do mostly city driving and I drive like a douchebag. I just went from a 98 Sentra to a G35 so you can't blame for driving aggressively for the time being.
Also, G35s require premium. It's a little expensive at the pump but worth every penny of it. I like having a luxury car with the power of a sports car for <$20k. 7/10/2009 10:49:50 AM |

What about a TSX? I know you mentioned TL... The TSX averages ~30mpg... 204hp from the 4 cyl is peppy enough and the TSX is still a nice car imo.

First generation (2004-2008) have the 2.4L I-4 with 2004 i-Vtec engine. So yes.
I'd go for a 2006 or newer . I know 2006 TSX's a can be had with ~30k miles for ~$18k.
Good luck

new 4 cyl accords have plenty of low end torque. probably the same as old V6s. not to mention, better on gas, cheaper on repairs, easier to work on and cheaper to insure.
TSX is great, reliable car but is VERY EXPENSIVE. if comfort and reliability is what you want, just pick a regular honda. somebody correct me, but doesn't TSX use premium gas?

A lot of TSX's have upwards of 50k to 60k miles for $17k. But with a little patients and searching, you can find some like this one:

we drove a handful of cars today and the Acura TL wins
the TSX wasn't bad and i especially like the fact that it has a timing chain instead of a belt, but the seats were just uncomfortable to me. they were too narrow (for my fat ass) and the things on the back of the seat that kinda wrap around your sides were sticking into me. the TL fit like a glove and drives great. it has a small backseat, but that's not a big deal to us at all.
after all the hype i've read on the accord, i was severely let down. the interior didn't appeal to me (i think i was spoiled b/c we drove the acuras first), the little button thing on the shifter sucks (nitpicky, i know), and it had more cabin noise than anything else we drove.
so now we're looking for an '05 and up TL w/o navigation (we like the dash w/o navigation better and would rather just buy one of the little mobile gps things anyway). white is her first choice in color.
we really appreciate the help and opinions. 7/11/2009 8:06:13 PM |

Honda/Acura may cost a little more to get into, but they'll hold their value pretty damned well, too
and I know you said she was gonna hold it for 10 yrs also, but a lot can happen in 10 yrs...
