so you are saying that if some kid accused you of molesting them you would rather just have them paid off and be labeled a child molester rather than fight to clear your name??

I'm not saying that whether he is guilty or not, but i'd say about 99% of the time when a settlement is involved it's b/c the party is guilty

I know this is apples and oranges, but:

I was charged with a felony in 2004. I was innocent, and I knew the evidence would bear me out.

That said, some people tried to persuade me to make a plea bargain just to avoid trial. And at the time, I could see the appeal of avoiding a trial. I knew I was innocent and that I'd be okay, but that didn't mean I wanted to go through trial.

I resolved to go through with the trial if it came down to it and plead not guilty at my arraignment. Thankfully, the charges were dismissed three years later.

That was just the decision I made, though, and I can't honestly say whether a plea bargain might have been "better" in the sense that a lot of trouble, worry, and expense could have been avoided. Had I gone to trial, I might have found myself wishing I had bitched out, copped to a misdemeanor, and done some community service.

I'll never know, but I can certainly understand why innocent people admit to lesser crimes, and I can certainly understand why Michael Jackson would pay a settlement to avoid pointless court proceedings.

TL;DR. To summarize: KeB, you are a judgemental dumbshit.

I got sued last year and settled even though I would have won had it gone to court. I was paying my lawyer by the hour and his was working on contingency, so by the time we got to meditation I'd already spent as much on my lawyer as he was willing to settle for.

I could have counter-sued and won that, but the guy wasn't worth shit and would have just filed bankruptcy.

Looks like the accuser's family wasn't the exact replica of a good christian story

Quote :
"J. C. Penney: alleged assault, litigation and psychiatric analysis

In August 1998 the Arvizo family was detained on a shoplifting charge at a J. C. Penney department store in West Covina, California. According to J. C. Penney, Gavin and Star Arvizo were sent out of the store by their father with an armload of stolen clothes, the family was detained and Janet started a "scuffle" with security officers. The shoplifting charge was dropped, but Janet filed a lawsuit for $3 million, saying that when she was detained she was "viciously beaten" by three security officers, one of whom was female.[7] The psychiatrist hired by J. C. Penney to evaluate Janet Arvizo found her to have rehearsed her children into supporting her story and to be both "delusional" and "depressed," although Janet's own doctor found her to be only the latter.[7] More than two years after the original alleged incident Janet added a further charge that one of the male officers had "sexually fondled" her breasts and pelvis area for "up to seven minutes".[7] Ultimately the department store settled out of court with the family for $137,000.[7]

Gavin Arvizo

Gavin Arvizo, the accuser, was born in December 1989. He was 13 years old in February and March 2003 when the alleged crimes were said to have been committed. In 2000, the accuser was diagnosed with cancer and had his spleen and a kidney removed. Jackson paid Gavin Arvizo's medical expenses and accommodated transport for his chemotherapy treatment.[7] Soon thereafter, Jamie Masada,[12] the owner of a comedy club called Laugh Factory, fulfilled his wish to meet Jackson, and the boy often visited Neverland, also when Jackson was not home. In 2001, there were no visits but he and Jackson had many telephone conversations. In 2002, the documentary Living With Michael Jackson was filmed, and aired in 2003. Until February 2005, the accuser was officially anonymized as "John Doe" by the court and the media, although his full name was already available all over the Internet.[citation needed]

The father of Gavin Arvizo

His father, David Arvizo, visited Neverland several times in 2000, sometimes with the whole family, other times with just the children. After 2000, the accuser's parents were divorced, and his mother had custody over him and his older sister and younger brother. In 2002 David Arvizo pleaded no contest to spousal abuse and in 2003 pleaded no contest to child cruelty.[7] After having completed classes in parenting and anger management the father applied for having a three-year restraining order against him temporarily lifted, to allow him to see his three children.[7] He claimed he wanted to see for himself how his son's health was, and hoped to find out whether the boy and Jackson had sexual contact. He blamed his ex-wife for allowing the boy to sleep in the same room with Jackson, and also claimed that she has been in a mental hospital.

As of late 2004 David insists "my children are routinely rehearsed by their mother Janet to do or say whatever she wishes."[7]"

So did MJ do it or was he extorted?

I might be wrong, but over the years weren't their multiple accusers and multiple settlements? I don't believe it was one isolated instance.

i'm sorry that's how you feel but i'm not gonna to plea or settle for a crime that is going to label myself a child molester esp if i'm not guilty.

you didn't even say what your felony was for but i'm sure if you were going to be looked at as a child molester for the rest of your life you would have def went to trial

or

that just shows what type of person you are. If I'm innocent I'm going to fight to clear my name, not just take some easy way out b/c it would have been too hard and troubling.

yeah i'm pretty sure there were multiple settlements, but i meamn if your innocent why not just pay off the accusers EVERY TIME....

it's really easy to say that. It's another thing entirely to be accused of a crime in court. Trials, especially civil, can easily ruin lives, guilty or not.

I've only had a couple of acquaintances ever in that kind of situation, and it really is a damned if you do, damned if you don't setup. Try getting a job while you have a trial pending, or getting a loan, or traveling outside the country. If someone accused you of molesting their kid tomorrow, it could easily tie you up for years even if you had absolutely nothing to do with it.

As everyone said, mj didn't settle, his insurance company did. It's cheaper for them to just pay off crazy fuck accusations than to drag a legal team through courts and open the little bit of privacy the dude had to the world.

ding ding ding. that's the terrible part about the legal system. Anyone can accuse you, and if that happens you basically have to put your life on hold until the issue is resolved.
For entertainers that need to tour/leave the country/earn revenue, sometimes it's just fucking easier to pay some nutjob to GO AWAY than it is to go through thr legal system.

The younger one is not MJs....if you see the pics that were put out before the event, the kid had white/blonde hair...apparently they dyed it black to make him look mixed...but he is just as white as the other two....MJ hated being black and didnt want to have any black kids. Look at OJs kids, obviously mixed.

Yes, I know this is from a British tabloid, but half the things in the article are known to be true, so I don't doubt that there is at least some truth to the rest.

I called it in my OP, I called him a Frankenstein creating a laboratory family, and it looks like that's what he did, playing with nature, playing God, and creating rootless children who have no idea who their parents are (potentially 5 different people), even though their parents are alive.

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/showbiz/466590/The-truth-about-Michael-Jacksons-perfect-test-tube-family.html

The truth about Michael Jackson's perfect test-tube family

Quote :
"MICHAEL Jackson acted like Dr Frankenstein to create a perfect family of test-tube children, the News of the World can reveal today.

Wacko Jacko picked friends and acquaintances to provide the sperm and eggs he thought would result in ideal kids.

Close associates have confirmed that Jacko was not the father of Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, or even Blanket, seven.

Instead, the tormented singer, who died in June aged 50, worked with fertility doctors and his skin specialist Dr Arnie Klein to produce kids by genetic engineering.

Today the News of the World can disclose that Jackson:

* KEPT dossiers on "ideal looking" children.
* LITTERED his bedroom with medical books on IV treatment.
* SUFFERED fertility problems due to drug abuse.
* ATTEMPTED to adopt a child from Bangkok.
* BEGGED Hollywood A-list pals to donate eggs and sperm.
* PORED over details of Nazi "master race" experiments.

One source - who has known Jacko and his family for over 16 years - told us: "Michael is not the father of a single one of the children in the biological way, but in chemical terms he oversaw their creation as a dad.

"Michael wanted his kids to be the best in every possible way and that prompted him to take the laboratory route instead of leaving nature to take its course.

"He was adamant that the children should come from intelligent, respected and - most importantly - healthy genes.

"He feared passing on vitiligo - the hereditary skin condition that turned Jacko's skin from black to white.

"His drug problems also played a major role as he knew his sperm may be damaged."

The source said that Jacko's ex-wife Debbie Rowe became his 'vessel' and carried the fertilised eggs Michael had created.

"Michael asked many of his friends to help donate their eggs and sperm from 1994 to 1997, and then he chose two each time for his babies. Added into the mix were anonymous donors who he felt came from good stock.

"One friend he asked to donate sperm was a well-known Hollywood actor who now suspects he may be the father of Blanket. He had a unique bond with Michael.

"Once Michael decided, the names were noted and given to Arnie, who locked them away in a safety deposit box. No one knows if Arnie has looked at them."

The source said Debbie carried the lab-fertilized embryos for his two older children.

Former child star Mark Lester recently told the News of the World how he believes he is Paris's father. The identity of Prince Michael's father is not known. It has been speculated that it might be Dr Klein, though he has refused to confirm this.

Blanket's surrogate mum is a Mexican nurse, Helena. She carried another woman's fertilised egg and again Jacko chose the egg donor and sperm provider.

Jacko's former maid Adrian McManus said: "He was obsessed with how children looked whenever they came to the house and had an unnatural interest in their appearances. He told me he wanted a family of 12, but I never saw him as a sexual human being.

"He would never have been able to father children naturally."

Adrian - the star's personal maid from 1990 to 1994 - said: "Michael had dozens of babies' photos and books packed with naked kids.

"He stared for hours at videos of children playing. Some he called 'ideal looking', and he would say how he loved 'ruby red lips' and 'blonde hair'." Jacko's interest in genetic engineering was sparked by his huge interest in Nazi history.

He was obsessed with Adolf Hitler, collected Nazi medals and scoured books about evil experiments on prisoners at Auschwitz.

Jackson also littered his bedroom with medical journals.

Adrian, 47, is convinced Jacko had fertility problems due to heavy drug use.

She said: "He had the powerful drug Accutane in his room. When I read the label it revealed it could damage foetuses.

"On top of all the other medication, his reproductive system would have been a mess."

Since Jacko's death, Debbie has been given visitation rights to the two eldest children.

Jacko's mum Katherine, 79, is the legal guardian of all three."

$20,000

That's how much it costs to raise each one of MJ's non-kids... per month.

Half of that, i.e., ($10,000 x 3, per month) goes to pay for employees caring for them.

Poor unlucky kids... being raised and loved by several strangers, when there are so many surviving relatives of MJ. Yes, I know his mother has custody, but I bet 90% of the caring is done by the various servants, maids, and butlers. She probably just takes them out once in a while to a park or for a hedonistic shopping spree, as her son used to.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8262159.stm

Jackson mother to get $1m a year

Quote :
"Court papers released in Los Angeles have revealed Michael Jackson's mother will receive more than $1m (£606,000) a year from the singer's estate.

The money is to be used to support Katherine Jackson and Michael Jackson's three children.
The amount was approved by a judge in Los Angeles in August, but details have remained confidential until now.

The payments are $26,804 a month for Mrs Jackson herself and a monthly allowance of $60,000 for the children."

Quote :
"The court documents show Mrs Jackson's share pays for an assistant, housekeeper, driver, utilities, clothing, grooming and other expenses. It is not known if any of her funds are being used to help other members of her family.

The documents do not provide details of how the childrens' allowance is being spent, but state that $315,000 a year pays for employees caring for them and another $160,000 is set aside for entertainment and other expenses."
