Tweaks that are necessary for an online metagame or personal play style, but the engine and majority of the deck is in there, making it basically the same thing any other scrub will buy after they see it finished well at Worlds.
I will say that your rating isn't that bad, what format is that in? Standard constructed?

1000 cards (includes 100 lands). $15.99 (was $10 when we bought this) http://sales.starcitygames.com//carddisplay.php?product=35582
we bought this like 3 times and did draft tournaments. basically, we'd spent several hours dividing them up into 15 card "boosters" and building up decks by drafting. A lot cheaper than actually buying boosters and pretty fun.
I would recommend this set. The worst thing is you might get like 12 of the same shitty card occasionally. But you'll get a lot of playsets which would otherwise take a while.

It's not sad because you're 19.
But it is sad that you are "bragging" about it on the internet.
Roommate bought this on xbox, it's been a fun nostalgic time, but the limitations and obviously imbalanced decks made me quickly lose interest.

All I can do is sit back and chuckle at all the milquetoasts in this thread. Slave Famous is a loser, Slave Famous is an asshole, etc. When in fact, you're the losers, and you're the assholes. You sound like every sucker I've dominated on MTGO in the last 2 years.
Let me break it down for you.
1. Netdeck...There are a finite number of cards in each set, thus there are a finite number of ways said cards interact with each other. Even fewer good cards and interactions that provide multiple win conditions. These ideal combinations are usually figured out by the time the spoilers are posted, before the new set even comes out. It doesn't take a genius to spot the best cards. Yes, there are always a few great cards that aren't realized until after extensive playtesting, but for the most part, you can tell Bitterblossom is going to pwn, and Woolly Thoctar is probably the most efficient vanilla creature of all time.
I work 50 + hours most weeks. I don't have the time for extensive playtesting on my own. When I play, I want to play, not do research. So yeah, I rely on some of the 'experts' to point me in the right direction to making a good deck. So do most other top casual players. Got a problem with that ? Fuck you.
2. Quote : | "It's all pretty funny to see how little people understand how far ahead of them the top 5-10 players in the world are, especially with the "I beat X once" comments." |
Its 35% about the cards, its 55% about the draw, its 10 percent about the player's skill level. Sure, same deck, same draw against the top players, I'm losing more than half the time. But anyone can get mana fucked, and anyone can get land swamped. Every deck has a counter, and every deck has a mismatch. Magic is rock-paper-scissors, and just because someone plays all the time or spends the most money doesn't ensure success. If I played irl competitively, I'm quite confident I could Top 8 at least a third of the time.
3. Elitist Attitude
Whats the point of being good if you don't talk shit to people beneath you ? I've earned my place at the table. If you don't like it, get on MTGO and challenge me. That's the only way you'll silence my roar.
And I'm sure you would probably get totally clowned on.7/27/2009 9:08:34 AM |

You just proved my point. Just like any game that has an element of "luck of the draw", the difference in skill and knowledge only comes out in the longterm. Your 35/55/10 breakdown is true for 98% of the field. Those few top guys are much more 40/20/40. There's an entire metagame and statistical analysis model going on behind the decks of the best players that you and the masses don't even contemplate.7/27/2009 7:39:13 PM |

What are you, retarded? What the hell do you think we are talking about. There's even more luck than that, to where the pros have to draw lucky/favorable match ups in the tournaments to get far. We're saying the same thing.

Nah, I haven't seen that. I've seen the computer take several seconds to think and then constantly re-equip the Loxodon Warhammer onto different creatures over and over, just burning out all of its lands, then swinging with a Troll Ascetic into my bigger creatures without enough mana to regenerate it. Also seen it just get frustrated with a stalemate and swing with all of its creatures out of nowhere, effectively ending any chance it had at winning...and swinging with its Verdant Force early instead of creating a massive sap army and just waiting me out. 7/28/2009 10:18:36 AM |

Damn if its not aggravating to play online. You have to go 'quick match' or w/e, and then toggle your little light on. I don't think anyone realizes that
I did get to rape some person who tried to use the RGB deck though. The black deck is pretty decent if you get a good draw...removal, hand control, invulnerable stall defense (drudge skeletons), annoying permanents with Underworld Dreams and The Rack, and evasion for the win condition. 7/28/2009 10:47:39 PM |

ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
I'll have to give the blue a shot, it looks like it plays really well when the computer uses it. Stall with bounce, counters, and tons of evasion.
I haven't seen the green/black do anything worth a damn though. I was playing in a random 3 player multiplayer game last night and it doesn't seem to have any kick to it. Lots of synergy if you get an elf lord out, but that seems to be about it.
I've only played with the green and black decks though. I hate that the cards you unlock are such garbage

the black deck seems to be the easiest to win with because enchantments are pretty strong in this game (ive only seen 1 destroy enchantment card in ANY deck). once they are out you can get pretty screwed and there are multiple melgrims, racks, and underworlds. had 0 probs beating computer with it in most games.
black/green is a pretty good deck if you have a decent draw because once you get a coat of arms or a few +1/+1 out, you just have too much for them to do anything with. this was the won i won by a 70-80pt hp differential (b/c the guy that heals was bolstered so high with buffs).
white deck has issues with creatures. good with few quick fliers, but it seems reliant on sorcery buffs. not enough instants. green is generally fine b/c of rampant growth, but if you dont draw big creatures you just die to fliers every time. 7/29/2009 2:02:16 PM |
