The democrats in that region are borderline socialist which includes an area of social permissivity. So by increasing gov't involvement in personnal freedoms you cross into totalitarian/communist area where that state controls economical AND personal choices. Kinda like if Pelosi started supporting hard-liner anti drug policies, pro-life, and family values along with her heart felt liberal welfare programs/universal health care/environmental regulations.

Movement upward means more economic permissiveness. So as socially conservative Democrats become more economically libertarian, they become totalitarians, according to the graph.

So far we seem to have more people in the green quadrant than in all the other sections combined, and very few people who are extreme in any direction.

I don't get how wdprice3 and republican18 got above the X axis... they must have chosen that they believe in separating the races, or something.

to get above the x-axis, you have to support state-imposed collectivism to some degree. That means (from what I can tell) some form of state-enforced morality and possibly racial discrimination.

If you are in the upper right hand corner, the website says something between a fascist and a libertarian (a Republican? haha jk). You want to see the government regulating people's personal lives, but not their economic lives.

*shrug*

Here's another pic for context.

Republican18 looks close to Marge Thatcher. Probably to be expected.

Some of the questions on this test are a little iffy.

"Military action that defies international law is sometimes justified."

It could be, potentially, but often is not. Somehow, I think an "agree" would be interpreted as supporting war, which I don't.

Agreed... I'm pretty certain I ended up picking Agree or Disagree to a couple things for different reasons than the test intended. I would have appreciated a Neutral option for such things.

"If we recognise that this is essentially an economic line it's fine, as far as it goes. We can show, for example, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot, with their commitment to a totally controlled economy, on the hard left. Socialists like Mahatma Gandhi and Robert Mugabe would occupy a less extreme leftist position. Margaret Thatcher would be well over to the right, but further right still would be someone like that ultimate free marketeer, General Pinochet. "

This is quite stupid. I strongly suspect Obama is more of a free marketeer than General Pinochet. The only reason Pinochet has a reputation of being a free marketeer is because he is only ever compared to his fellow South American dictators.

A much better 2D axis is collectivist versus compulsory. You can be a socialist without believing people should be forced to participate in your socialism. Voluntary socialism is found in a Kibbutz or a family of adults. Involuntary socialism is what applies to children, which cannot leave. Against that we have Voluntary Capitalism (anarchism, all rules are negotiable) versus Involuntary Capitalism, as is found in most countries (the rules are fixed and enforced).

i think what put me above the x axis was strongly agreeing to "People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce"

My graph resembles most everybody else's.

But my report also indicated that I am a genius and an exceptional lay.

So, yeah.

Some of those questions were pointless. Perhaps I'm missing something, but whether or not I feel like abstract art is really art doesn't seem like an indicator of any particular political ideology. Whether or not it deserves public funding (it doesn't, no art does) would be another question entirely. I'd classify myself as an anarcho-capitalist.

So I've heard. And I would never suggest otherwise. Voluntary socialism should work wherever it exists, otherwise everyone involved would quit and it would cease to exist.
