charlie weis making some sense for a change
Quote : | "Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis held his weekly press conference today, previewing the Michigan game. Among the topics he hit:
• He and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady have traded text messages this week, but Weis would not discuss whether wager on the game. Brady is a U-M alum who became close to the coach when Weis was his offensive coordinator in New England.
• Notre Dame fullback James Aldridge will miss the game with a sprained right shoulder. Aldridge was injured in the second half last week as the 18th-ranked Irish beat Nevada, 35-0. Aldridge had three carries for 13 yards. Tailback Robert Hughes will start at fullback. Aldridge also is a starting kickoff returner for the Irish. Weis said senior Barry Gallup Jr. will get the first chance to replace him.
• Weis was impressed that Michigan freshman QB Tate Forcier was not rattled by the big crowd in the season-opening win over Western Michigan at Michigan Stadium.
• He said he didn’t really agree with the comparisons between Jimmy Clausen, who started as a freshman for the Irish in 2007, and Forcier, other than that both enrolled in college early.
• Asked about recruiting Forcier, he said it was hard to track him because he kept switching high schools.
• Notre Dame associate head coach Corwin Brown, who played at Michigan, helps the Irish players understand both sides of the rivalry.
• Weis alluded to U-M long snapper Tom Pomarico’s father playing at Notre Dame in 1970-74. He also referenced tailback Jonas Gray, one of three players from Michigan on ND's roster. He said Gray will be excited this week.
• Weis said it’s important for the Irish to get an early lead to help quiet the crowd at the Big House.
• He said U-M defensive coordinator Greg Robinson, whose Syracuse team beat the Irish last year, has a bit of an edge this week. Robinson only has to watch tape of Notre Dame’s offense to prepare. Weis has to watch Syracuse’s 2008 defensive tapes to scout schemes and Michigan’s tapes to scout personnel.
• He recalled the last matchup in Ann Arbor (Mike Hart’s guarantee game, a 38-0 rout) but said he has no plans to reference it this week.
• He said he has no comment about U-M's off-field distractions because, “They’ve already sent their message how they’re going to handle it.”" |

just got home from the game.
some thoughts:
atmosphere - UM's new facilities are going to be pimp. The new skyboxes are behemoths, and they definitely help trap more sound than before. Once the old press box is removed we will have a new record of people at a college football game. For the first time UM pumped in music (The White Stripes, THUNDER, etc). It helped pump people up, and people actually sang along to the White Stripes. This was by far the most energized and rowdy I've seen UM fans since the triple OT win over MSU 5-6 years ago. People hardly sat besides timeouts the entire game (unusual for UM fans). The noise level was higher than any game I can remember (those new skyboxes are a factor).
the game - INCREDIBLE game. Very exciting, as I'm sure everyone here knows. There were some big officiating gaffs on both sides of the ball. The refs missed 3-4 crucial holding calls on ND's O-line near the end, and I thought I might lose my cool (one where the ND player had Brandon Graham in a headlock). Anyway, from the looks of it, UM's season may hinge on the health of Tate Forcier. Denard Robinson didn't look as special with his opportunities against the faster ND defense (who knew he was going to run).
Hopefully there won't be a let down against EMU & IU the next two weeks. If UM starts 4-0 they'll probably get ranked thereafter.
wow, V is right... http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings .. I guess history helps sometimes, eh?

predicting another high scoring game
they SHOULDNT be able to stop us at all and our pass defense, and rush defense I guess, are both very poor right now
but you have to figure our defense is playing as badly as it can yet we are still winning games... so the time when defense turns it around should be a glorious day of football 9/28/2009 8:43:52 AM |

TATE IS OK!!!
Quote : | "Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez said this morning that freshman quarterback Tate Forcier has a sore right shoulder and may be limited in today's practice but "should be OK" the rest of the week.
Rodriguez said he has no concerns about Forcier playing Saturday at Michigan State.
"The trainers feel very confident he'll be fine in a few days," Rodriguez said.
Other subjects discussed:
• Rodriguez said he will treat this week a little different, tightening up the media access - no watching practice on Wednesday - just to keep his players focused on the rivalry game.
• He confirmed injuries to special teams players Jon Conover and Zach Johnson.
• A number of defensive positions will be competitive and evaluated this week, particularly the cornerback spot opposite Donovan Warren. " |

Wish we would have gone for two and just played to win!!! But that's too easy to say now.
Terrible loss that shouldn't have happened, but USC losing to Washington shouldn't happen. It's just how some games swing and how certain sides show up to play.
Bottom line, not worried either. Let's get to a bowl. 10/5/2009 7:23:57 AM |
