Is there an explanation for why some HDMI cables are 6 bucks, and others are 40 bucks? A quick google search revealed that not all HDMI cables are the same. There are different versions, with some resulting in better picture/audio quality...maybe. I don't know what the truth is, but maybe someone here does.

$40 ones are overpriced for suckers.

HDMI is digital meaning if the bits get there they get there. Someone claiming their magic cable makes a 1 or a 0 more of 1 or a 0 is lying. The only thing you need to concern yourself with is really distance and installation type. Signals degrade over longer distances. Thicker cables provide actual distance improvements. Magic cable voodoo does not. There are also different cable types for if you're going in wall or something, but idk how much that even matters.

If you're looking for a 6 foot cable to go from your tv to your receiver/ps3/xbox/whatever the $4 monoprice cables perform no differently from the $40 overpriced cables you buy from bestbuy.

Monoprice sells 24 and 28 awg cables. I dont know at what distance 24 offers less signal degradation over 28, but for 90% of general consumer use cases its irrelevent.

like i mentioned earlier in the thread although there is very little difference in signal quality, there are differences in build quality. inferior cables aren't tripled shielded, have thin protective jackets and flimsy end connectors. that said there is no reason to pay $40/cable. just pick up one of mine (cheaper than monoprice once you add shipping, and you can get them today)
