I was talking about I'm Only Sleeping, which I knew what album it was from and was only off on the track number by one from memory. I didn't look it up until you asked who wrote it, who I was also sure was Lennon. Not as familiar with the Harrison song.

i'm a fan of dear prudence and would embed this if i could:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ppmdvXsMBE

and the atypical drumming was actually done by mccartney. go figure.

also i like "get back (she's so heavy)"

*disclaimer: these are choices for this particular moment of time. could be other songs in different moods

does anyone have any insight about the stereo remasters vs. the original mono?

I know the beatles intended for us to hear it in mono, but is mono necessarily better?

Everything that was recorded in mono sounds better in mono, and the same principle holds true for the records that were done in stereo.

The Mono remasters are fucking incredible, though there are some interesting changes from what we've come to know. For instance, "Helter Skelter" doesn't have the fade in or the scream, it just ends after the fade out.

the stereo mixes seem to bring out the vocals more, and are a little a lot crisper

but I need to listen to more to make a better determination

fuck no

the mono sounds much crisper, the balance is better, and they sound like a band making records instead of weird, spaced-out tracked shit like the '87 CDs do

what are you listening on?

Asides from Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence, are there any other songs that Paul's drummed on while with The Beatles?

Oh, and Let it Be is a very underrated album IMO. It allows you to really see how far they had come when compared to their earlier stuff, as, unlike most of their albums at the time, it lacked a lot of the studio over dubs and layering that appeared in later albums (although, there are still over dubs on the version commercially released, thanks to Phil Spector. IMO, the Naked version of the album is better, as it restores that "raw" feeling that the album was originally intended to have).

Oh, and to the person who likes "I'm Only Sleeping." The song is fucking awesome. I love listening to it early in the morning after only getting 2-4 hours of sleep the night before.

let it be is awesome imo

I agree with the schmaltz tho, especially on the long and winding road

not a big fan of let it be the song, either

but I like the foundations of it

dig a pony and across the universe would've made a fantastic a/b single

could've come out before abbey road

then abbey road would be the last beatles album, like it's supposed to be, since it ends with arguably the best LP side in pop music history

instead, we've got let it be, phil spector's exact definition of what a pop album is...two hits and ten pieces of garbage

Paul McCartney wanted Let It Be to appear as it did on the 2003 re-release; Phil Spector got the tapes after the Beatles were through, and after his production shit was done they didn't really get a say in the finished product. I know McCartney in particular hated the finished album and that lingering resentment was the reason for the Let It Be...Naked album, which reflects what it should have been.

On another topic, the Love Cirque show with George Martin's arrangements is amazing. I was pretty stoked that they included that version of "Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows" on Beatles Rock Band, although the animation behind it makes it difficult to play.
