You know what I hate about getting older? Being reminded about being older.

the thing i hate about getting older is the routine...go to work, get paid, pay bills (repeat cycle until you retire 30 years from now).

I hate seeing my friends "grow up"....I'm not ready to get married, but its depressing/sad when your friends get married or have kids...moreso b/c you'll naturally lose them as a "good" friend, and its depressing you haven't met someone to marry, but at the same time I'm not ready to get married. In your late 20s things don't make sense anymore. I always have a tough time letting go of the "past" and as much as I'd love to have a family, I still enjoy going out and dating....its also tougher to make friends, people are so couped up in work/family that all the old social circles deteriorate. Meetup.com has been helpful, but none of my "best" friends live within 3 hours of here.... /rant

Think about what 38 feels like...and I'm divorced and have had 2 major career changes in the last 5 years. No kids yet, don't really know if there are gonna be any this late in the game. Hope so, but not betting the farm on it.

God damn right

While I've gotten older, I've also gotten in better and better shape, gotten stronger, alleviated aches/pains/back/joint issues, mental health/mood drastically improved, clarity in goals/where or who I want to be....

While I don't go out and get shit faced for fun anymore, I don't care. It's not fun to me any more and detrimental to other goals and how I feel. I'd much rather go kayaking or sailing w/ a girl than get shitfaced w/ her.

Nothing really... I wish my elbow didn't hurt as much after playing baseball/softball but this has been going on since I was 17.

I feel just about the same mentally and physically now as I did ten years ago...

completely losing your friends to their kids. one of my best friends can't NOT talk about her kids for one second. makes it painful to talk to her at all. not that i mind her kids, they are fine in reasonable doses. but she is my friend and sometimes i'd like to talk about more than "OH little bobby picked his own nose today!!!!"

yeah, your social life deteriorating because you're still single kinda sucks

and I'm not really a fan of how much easier it is to hurt yourself, and then how much longer it takes to heal/recover.

yeah, i think i still have the hormone levels and stuff to stay supremely jacked from working out, but i can't work out hard enough to stay in the kind of shape I once was, because my joints will hurt like a bitch and a half if I try to.

and God forbid that I get a faceful of mountain while skiing...and I'm pretty sure that it's a really good thing that I haven't wrecked a motorcycle in over 5 years, now.

Man, you guys are making me really glad I got engaged

It's really weird where I live now because it's this vacuum that exists outside of reality in a lot of ways. By the very nature of the program, it seems most people stay single for much longer than they would had they stayed in their home country. So I hear about people I went to high school and college with getting married and having kids but it doesn't feel real since it only comes in the form of Facebook updates

It also helps that of my close friends back home, only one has gotten married. I think that's highly unusual for someone my age. Or maybe most of my friends fail at romance lol.

I've noticed that even when I go out for like just 3 or 4 beers I wake up with a headache in the morning... I could have 12-15 in my prime and feel like a champion @ 8am

No excuse for this - while my daughter is the biggest thing in my life, she is not the only thing. Hate parents who can only talk about children.

Fast forward about 6 years. Much has changed. I could turn it up all the way until I hit 41, then shit started to fall apart.

I throw my back out a lot, and it's a lot harder to lose weight. Still have all my hair but it's getting grayer and my beard is now damn near white.

And every joint in my body lights up every chance they get.

But it could be worse.

I currently have to run at least 3 miles a day to maintain my current weight, and I haven't seen my abs in 10 years.

No you don't. That's like someone else saying they have to run 20 miles to maintain their weight. (Because they eat 4 full cheesecakes every day)

Whatever calories you are burning from the running, just cut them out of your diet and don't run. And you will maintain your weight.

But running is good, so do it. However, running so much as you get older also has its negatives. Lifting weights mostly, some flexibility training, and a little cardio is way better preparation for old age.

^^*sigh*

I guess I need to spell it out. I have to run at least 3 miles/day, with the same diet that I had when I was 25, just to maintain my weight. Yes, I could diet and take in less calories, and I probably will at some point, but I'm talking about getting older, and that's what happens. If you maintain the same calorie intake you did 10 years ago, you just don't burn them like you used to.

My vision. I had some vision problem when I was younger, so it was never perfect, but it was still pretty good. Now I can tell it isn't quite as good anymore.
