agreed...obama will undoubtedly get flak for receiving it, but it's not like he asked for it...i suppose he could have declined, but i just don't see that working out well, either...i guess the committee is a better judge of who "deserves" it than regular folks like you and i (after all, it's a private organization, not a global democracy), but i just can't see myself agreeing with them10/9/2009 10:20:50 AM |

All Obama did was ride the "governmental change" wave. What action has he taken to "strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people"? He has done nothing of the sort SO FAR, if that is the platform for his peace prize, it should have been given to the millions of young voters (and african americans) that turned up for the first time at the polls. All he did in that regard was be well spoken (Clinton didn't get a peace prize, and he could talk a cigar into a cooch) and non-white. 10/9/2009 10:21:03 AM |

Bush should have 3 or 4 of them, for literally fighting several wars at the same time and receiving the least amount of casualties and deaths on the winning side in human history.
Who else has pulled that off in the history of the world??? 10/9/2009 10:31:35 AM |

Rush brought up a good point that it is a very liberal award. Gore, Carter, and Obama win one but Reagan didn't even though he was one of the key figures in bringing communist Europe to an end. That's an interesting way of looking at it. 10/9/2009 12:53:25 PM |

well, part of the reason conservatives never win is that any good they do is tainted with large amounts of stupid
also, of COURSE it's a liberal award...when was the last time you saw a group of conservatives willing to give away money and recognition in the spirit of global peace? not gonna happen 10/9/2009 12:57:48 PM |

I think all politicians have skeletons in the closet if you go looking. Like we both said, it's a liberal award.

1. My family was riding together when we went to visit my sister and have lunch since she was in town. My dad likes to listen to him, not me. 2. I didn't say he really deserved it, but he did do more than Obama has. Obama is just another talking head in DC like the rest of our politicians who give big speeches and spend lots of money. That is no different than Reagan. 3. Some of his policies did help (the arms race), but no it wasn't all him.10/9/2009 1:19:41 PM |

^Of course he did and that is the simple answer, but Pope John Paul II also helped to free his home land of Poland. The USSR would have probably failed anyway at some point. They already were having economic problems, but what the US did helped the end come a little sooner. 10/9/2009 1:24:13 PM |

lulz, there is something wonderfully ironic about that.
Obama has already said that he doesn't believe he deserved the award for his accomplishments thus far, but will view the nomination as a call to action. Well put.
It would have been pretty stupid to decline the award politically speaking, as the GOP would simply spin that reaction as Obama being "too good for the award" or "arrogant." You cannot win with these close-minded types, they simply don't play, or think, fairly.
Regardless, I'm an Obama supporter still, and I don't believe he deserved the award for what he's done so far, and neither does he! The majority of Obama supporters that I know also share this same viewpoint. Believing otherwise is simply a false assumption. To prove it, simply ask around.
