^^^ That’s just his rose colored glasses.

Quote :
"General George Casey Jr., the Army chief of staff, said on Sunday that he was concerned that speculation about the religious beliefs of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, accused of killing 12 fellow soldiers and one civilian and wounding 30 0thers in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, could “cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers.”

“I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that,” General Casey said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union. “It would be a shame — as great a tragedy as this was — it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.”"

So the government knew that this guy had tried to get in touch with Al Qaeda and ironcally the day the democrats removed the "lone wolf" provision from the Patriot Act, a lone wolf kills 13 American soldiers. Also, he went to the same mosque as a couple of the 9/11 terrorists.

So why was this guy allowed to stay in his position? The warning signs were there, it doesn't make sense.

Wlfpk4Life, I've read through that link a couple of times, and it says nothing to support your post.

He didn't try to get in touch with al Qaeda. He maybe tried to get in touch with a guy who might be sympathetic to al Qaeda.

He didn't go to the same mosque as any 9/11 hijackers. The guy he tried to contact may have talked to two of the hijackers.

Nothing in the article says anything about a lone wolf provision.

I'm not sure you understand how "providing support for your statements" works.

Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda
Army Major in Fort Hood Massacre Used 'Electronic Means' to Connect with Terrorists
Nov. 9, 2009

Quote :
"U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News."

Imam tied to 9/11 hijackers praises Hasan
Alleged Fort Hood shooter is conscious and talking at Army hospital
1 hour, 43 minutes ago

Quote :
"[Imam Anwar al] Awlaki said the only way a Muslim can justify serving in the U.S. military is if he intends to 'follow in the footsteps of men like Nidal.'"

Quote :
"Hasan's family attended the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., where Awlaki was preaching in 2001. Hasan's mother's funeral was held at the mosque on May 31, 2001, according to her obituary in the Roanoke Times newspaper, around the same time two 9/11 hijackers worshipped at the mosque and while Awlaki was preaching."

I posted my link and the other stuff in a hurry as I was walking out the door, so you will have to excuse the lack of links. My comments weren't necessarily connected with the link I provided, and my hastiness to not have the perfectly laid out post is entirely my fault. Please forgive me.

But since I'm a nice guy, here you go GrumpyGOP:

As for the contact with Al Qaeda, I am going by what the title of the piece said. But seriously, saying a guy who is for jihad is maybe being sypmathetic towards Al Qaeda might be like saying a plant is sympathetic towards sunlight for growth (and what hooksaw posted...thanks for the link there bud).

As for the mosque:

http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-11-08/sports/alleged-shooter-tied-to-mosque-of-911-hijackers-met-al-hazmi-in-san-diego

Quote :
"WASHINGTON — The alleged Fort Hood shooter apparently attended the same Virginia mosque as two Sept. 11 hijackers in 2001, at a time when a radical imam preached there.

Whether the Fort Hood shooter associated with the hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
"

As for the lone wolf provision:

http://news.antiwar.com/2009/11/05/house-panel-defies-obama-on-patriot-act/#idc-container

Quote :
"In an act of uncharacteristic defiance of President Obama, the House Judiciary Committee voted today 16-10 to remove the “lone wolf” section of the USA PATRIOT Act."

Thanks for clarifying.

1) There's a lot of pro-Jihad groups out there that don't all get along.
2) Even if the guy supports al Qaeda specifically, that doesn't mean he's anything more than sympathetic -- that is, his relationship with them could be limited to talking about how great they are.

And of course for all I know the guy is a salaried al Qaeda employee who just got his complimentary wristwatch for 25 years of loyal service, but we can't conclude from the info provided so far.

"Even if Hasan used his Muslim faith as an excuse to go on this rampage, I think we're dealing with a nutball. This attack may have been premeditated, but I would be extremely surprised to learn that it was part of any coordinated Islamist attack."

Looks like I was wrong:

Airline bombing plot: Al-Qaida supporting cleric may face arrest
Thursday, 7 January 2010

Quote :
"An influential Yemeni cleric, once thought untouchable by the authorities despite his preaching in support of al-Qaida, including to several of the 9/11 hijackers, tonight appeared to be a target for arrest after a senior minister suggested the US-born cleric had met the man accused of the attempted Christmas Day airliner bombing."

Quote :
"Awlaki's contacts with Nidal Hassan, the US army psychiatrist who killed 13 American soldiers at Fort Hood in November, have raised further serious doubts over the effectiveness of US intelligence gathering. Last month it emerged that Hassan's first email to Awlaki asked whether the cleric could justify, under Islamic law, the killing of American soldiers on US soil. The email was sent on 17 December 2008 and was intercepted by the FBI, who failed to stop Hassan before the killings 11 months later.

The confirmation of Awlaki's contacts with Abdulmutallab will put Yemen's president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, under serious pressure as his American allies demand to know why the cleric was allowed to continue to operate for months, even after the revelation of his contacts with the Fort Hood killer."

Apparently, this fuckhead was somehow involved in both attacks.
