OEP you're of Egyptian descent, correct?
What are your thoughts on the Luxor massacre? 11/5/2009 10:41:57 PM |

No, I am not of Egyptian descent. And my descent/citizenship/ethnicity/skin color/passport are irrelevant. I don't pledge allegiance to any country or nationality of people. I pledge allegiance to humanity and to protect humans of all types from persection to whatever extent I can.
Luxor massacre? Is that when terrorists sprayed tourists at Luxor with bullets killing many?
Look, I condemn killing/persecution of civilians of any country by no matter who does it and for what reason. I hope that answers your question. 11/5/2009 10:47:01 PM |

I thought at some point you said you were Egyptian. My mistake. The only relevance is that the Luxor massacre occurred in Egypt, which is why if you were of Egyptian descent, I figured you'd know about it.
But the point is, Abu Omar's group, al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, was responsible for that attack, and the deaths of dozens of innocent citizens from countries like Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, France, etc.
I'm just trying to give a little of Omar's background, since he's a member of a murderous terrorist group. He doesn't exactly seem like an innocent cleric who was mistakenly kidnapped with no good reason.] 11/5/2009 10:49:22 PM |

^^ Because I was so angry at sarijoul, I was about to try to call you out and say that 99% of your threads wind up condemning americans, but I remembered that you do post quite a lot of threads outraged at islamist extremism too... See, I'm not just slinging out ad hominem insults in this thread. I believe you when you say you are against persecution of all humans
sarijoul and liberals like him, though, need to get a sense of perspective on who really deserves their angst. They're more than ready to take a cheap shot at their own defenders while giving their enemies a free pass and an understanding pat on the head, "we know you only chop off people's heads with a dull knife because we sell mcdonalds in your country... carry on young lads"

I don't need to be from Egypt to know about the attack... I read up on all terrorist attacks If I remember correctly, it was in 1997, and I remember that because I was in Egypt in 1996.
Anyway, I think you are confusing people here. This cleric who was kidnapped has nothing to do with the massacre AFAIK. Anyway, don't you think the Egyptians would have convicted him of it and not just tortured him and released him?
The head of the terrorist/radical group you named is another Omar. And he is serving a life sentence in North Carolina!

yea, liberals like him who are all too eager to give a pass to islamist extremists while clinging to the word of anyone to justify their adolescent outrage at our military... yea, they need perspective.
rational liberals have plenty of perspective and are for the most part reasonable. 11/5/2009 10:56:13 PM |

nah, i'm not saying he was the leader of the group, but a member
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan_Mustafa_Osama_Nasr
Quote : | "He is a member of al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, an Islamic organisation dedicated to the overthrow of the Egyptian government. The group has been linked to the murder of Anwar Sadat in 1981 and a terrorist campaign in the 1990s that culminated in the November 1997 Luxor massacre. As a result it is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and European Union. After the Egyptians declared the group illegal, Nasr sought asylum in Italy." |
looks like Italy was not the place to seek asylum!

yet in all of your conversations and posts about islamist extremism you are talking about how much america sucks. Your energy demonstrates where your true sympathy lies. You are loathe to give the CIA the benefit of the doubt, but accept without question the word of a sworn enemy to your nation. Hung by your own pitard.

Would the OP care to explain the outrage with Ian Kelly, the spokesman for the State Department, when much of this surrounds the CIA? I'd venture to guess that every Foreign Ministry on earth would issue a similar statement of disappointment should they be in a similar situation of their government's employees being tried in absentia.
Quote : | "He convicted some of his boys, acquitted some. And he convicted some Americans, and acquitted some/one." |
As ive read in other news articles, the Station Chief was acquitted due to his Diplomatic Immunity, not necessarily his lack of involvement in the alleged crime.11/5/2009 11:03:25 PM |

OK, I learned something new: that he is a member of the group.
If he is guilty of anything, throw the books at him and punish him. If he really was guilty even in the most indirect manner of the Luxir massacre, don't you think the EGYPTIAN authorities and the EGYPTIAN judge would have tried him and convicted him? But the Egyptian judge let him go because there was no case.
You have to know that al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya is a terrorist organization similar to Hamas, i.e., a huge organization with tens of thousands of members, which also provides social services. It is damn easy to become a card-carrying member of it... for example, you might be tasked with recruiting more members, or distributing their flyers, etc. The attacks are planned by those at the top, and the majority of the members have no role in planning or carrying out the attacks.
I don't know what role Abu Omar played, but as I said, if he had even the slightest role, the Egyptians would have jumped on the opportunity to convict him after he was returned to them on a platter after he ran away to Italy.
And this is just terrible, if true:
Quote : | "In April 2004, while his incarceration had been downgraded to house arrest, Nasr placed several phone calls from Egypt to his family and friends. He told them he had been rendered into the hands of Egypt's SSI at Tura prison, twenty miles south of Cairo.[3] He said he had been subjected to various depredations, tortured by beating and electric shocks to the genitals, raped, [4] and eventually had lost hearing in one ear." |

Anybody who sides with Obama over this should be ashamed. He should be ashamed. Surprisingly the world of political ideas/issues does not split cleanly into Republican and Democrat. Surprisingly, you don't have to defend every last action of somebody vaguely on your side! You'd know that if you were actually an independent instead of an avid GOP boot-licker. 11/5/2009 11:45:57 PM |

when you believe the allegations of despicable and unredeemable worms, who have sworn to fight the USA in all areas and have been taught to lie about torture... And choose not to believe those troops and civil servants who put their lives on the line to defend all of us... Well, I consider that to be dishonoring them.
if someone you knew chose to always believe the very worst about you no matter what the rumor was or who was spreading it, would you consider them to be a friend to you? In the same way, when someone takes the mere allegation of torture from scumbags like these as "proof" of torture - they are no friend of this country or of those who serve it.
