Mostly this. I had a long "discussion" with a few people on facebook who were railing that this woman should be banned from all sports and expelled from the school.
Really? Hey, you know what Zinadine Zidane got for intentionally headbutting a guy in the chest? A three game suspension. And he's a pro player who is held to a much higher standard.
The most she should get is a few games suspension.
You know who is really to blame here? The refs. Almost all of those fouls were card-worthy material, and the pony-tail pull was ejection worthy. What was most stunning was that almost all of that footage occurred right in front of the ball, where everyone's eyes (including all three referees) would be looking. The referee should have shut that shit down right when it started. It's plain as day to see when a player is starting to get too aggressive, and a warning or a yellow card can be used to keep the player in check. None of those were used, and this player took it as carte blanche to do whatever she wanted to on the field.
If you want to blame anyone, blame the refs.11/10/2009 10:25:31 AM |

I blame both. The refs should have called all the flagrant fouls that were committed, and this girl should have had the self control to not be such a bitch. It's one thing to play rough when the refs aren't making any calls, but the stuff she did was going beyond rough and into spiteful and bitchy dirty play.

I like how when it's a woman doing the fouling, it's "spiteful" and "bitchy." 11/10/2009 12:35:59 PM |

aggression snowballs in soccer when there's no carding going on. I can get reaaaaaal pissed off sometimes in soccer and the only thing stopping me from shoving a guy into a wall in indoor is knowing I'll get ejected. 11/10/2009 12:46:34 PM |

I was playing this indoor soccer game once where the ref sucked really bad and was missing half of everything. There was this really REALLY obvious handball, and everyone stopped and was like "HANDBALLLLL." But the ref didn't blow the whistle, completely oblivious.
I just kept dribbling and said, "There was NO whistle, keep playing goddamn." 11/10/2009 12:52:28 PM |

yes. I only complain about a no-call when it negatively affects my team 11/10/2009 12:59:48 PM |
