There was a restaurant/bar in Lexington where the police used to just set up outside of and pull people leaving. They did it pretty much every weekend.

The owner of the bar put "Attention Davidson County Police: Stop harassing our customers" on their sign. It didn't stay up for long.

i see that not dimming high beams at night can be a crime, however what about just turning on your headlights during the day? there is no law saying you cannot have on your headlights during the day.

Guess what, most speeding tickets are only a $10 fee as well.

I'd like to see a cop prove in court that you were "flashing" your high beams to warn other drivers of a speed trap. Unless you are the only car on the road traveling that direction, it'd be incredibly easy to say you were flashing your lights real quick before passing another vehicle.

I flash my lights to warn other drivers, but if it's during the day I do a quick look around to see if any cops are around me.

I also flash my lights at drivers who forgot to turn on their headlights, is that illegal too?

I've had a cop flash his highbeams at me to tell me to turn off my highbeams. Unfortunately for him, I didn't have my high beams on, I had my foglights on (idiot cop).

^^Where in the NC LAW that I referenced does it say anything about nighttime or daytime? It doesn't matter. It is illegal. They can pull you over for it. Shit, they could be total assholes and impound your car because you were using it in the admission of a crime.

I'm not saying don't do it. I don't give a shit. But it's illegal in the state of North Carolina.

^Technically yes. It's illegal. Practically? No, you're not going to get pulled for flashing your lights to remind someone to dim theirs.

I'm just saying, that there is a law on the books that the cops can use to bust your ass if they felt like it, which was the question posed by the OP.

Who cares (about the legality of flashing your lights to warn others)? Do it anyway, just do it with some common sense.

I ALWAYS Flash my headlights. Oddly enough, I cant remember the last time someone did me the courtesy. I often wonder if this courtesy is passe, and people dont know what it means anymore.

I just make sure I am out of view of the cop before I do it, so that way I dont have to worry about the legalities.

I have read several different things online that seem to inidicate it is legal (when I researched this in the past, it referenced court cases), but that really doesnt mean much. if you piss off the cop, he can pull you over and find something to write you a ticket for. Best thing to do is just avoid it altogether, and warn just further down the road.

^^how the hell can they slam you for admitting a crime when you may or may not evenbe speeding when you flash your lights?

warnings have nothing to do with whether I am speeding or not

Guess what else is on the books? Jaywalking. Do the cops care? No. Hell, I've jaywalked right in front of more cop cars than I can count.

That's the point isn't it? Try flipping the cop off while you're jaywalking and see if he gives you a ticket. Like carzin said, it will piss them off so don't let them catch you doing it, regardless of its legality.

I think it is. I only do it because my dad used to do it. But now days, people either don't seem to pay attention or care. They either think you're flashing them because their hi-beams are on, or your trying to say hello to someone other than them.

With good reason. I know someone who was arrested for "attempting to incite a riot" simply for flipping off a cop.

It sucks, but it's the system we live in. Do your best so that cops don't notice you and move on with your lives.

you clearly did not read what I wrote.

if i simply turn on and off my regular headlights during the day, there is NOTHING illegal about that, according to the law you posted.

I flash people when I see a cop. I also flash them to turn on their lights in the rain or the dark, but they rarely get it...and if it's a girl they get scared and pull off into the nearest turn.

Z cars all flash their headlights at each other. At least they used to...

I always liked how smooth the flash switch was on that car. Just grab it with the pinky, it was perfectly located. Very European. Not like breaking a twig on American cars.
