I lived next to Cherry Point and Bogue Air Field for many years of my life with little effect on my study habits, so I don't exactly fear the perhaps distant vibration of a party in the distance, or even in my own place.
So, right now it's looking like we won't want the house until next year, in the 2010 Fall Semester. Is it possible to arrange a lease that far ahead of time, or am I really just getting familiar with things now, and I won't really be able to fix anything up until late next semester? And I'm getting the feeling that I should probably be out scouting in the neighborhoods you are mentioning instead of just hoping that they'll have a listing online somewhere. 11/30/2009 1:58:58 PM |

i wouldn't wait as late as spring break. the odds of you locking something up right now are probably pretty slim, but i definitely think it would be a good idea to constantly keep an eye out after xmas break. one thing that kind of sucks is that there are landlords like my old one who only require 30-60 days notice before their tenants decide to move out. in that case you may not see some places become available until june or so. but i think a lot of the houses in the hillsborough st area tend to get snatched up before then. 11/30/2009 2:31:25 PM |

Anyone think that a house ISN'T better than an apartment for a first-time-off-campus deal? 12/2/2009 12:41:11 AM |

Okay fine, but it seems like less of a hassle as far as actually landing one--but I guess that's the sucker-hook.
Ugh, I'm just not looking forward to cataloging every goddamn neighborhood I'm going to need to walk through bi-weekly since I doubt half of them will wind up on Craigslist or in the newspaper. 12/2/2009 12:47:21 AM |

My biggest issue right now is my planned roommates. They are far more insistent on a location walkable/bikable to NCSU, or at least easily on the Wolfline--whereas I actually own a car and can get my ass around and wouldn't mind something on, say, Kaplan or something. 12/2/2009 3:10:54 AM |
