your problem isn't with law enforcement.

respond to the craigslist ad for the deer stands anonymously and make an arrangement to buy them. Take your granddad with you. Once you confirm they are his, tell him you will take them back. If he acts like an ass, leave and then come back later to set his house on fire.

Shoot him as he's trying to escape from the burning house.

We had a problem several years ago with a drug house next door. Strange cars coming for very brief visits all the time. A huge rash of nearby property theft...we're talking you could draw a circle on a map it was so obvious. The sheriff wouldn't do much. They couldn't really, hell they only had a couple dozen police cars and we were all the way at the edge of the county.

They finally robbed and raped the old lady next door. Took the shotgun right out of her hands and cut the phone line. Real nightmare scenario. The drug house was empty that day for some reason. Cops never even knocked on the door. The woman's adult son camped in the woods that night with a deer rifle. Sure enough, the dopes showed up carrying a bunch of stolen rifles/TVs/etc inside. He called the cops and basically said "If you're not here in 20 minutes I'm going to start shooting them." (yes, 20 minutes would have been the best possible response time) Whole gang was arrested, loads of crack and guns seized, the area was basically crime-free for years after.

Sometimes the shit just has to hit the fan before the government will or can take action. I'm not necessarily advocating plugging in that fan and putting a pig nearby.

It's been well over a decade ago now, maybe more. I remember hearing "burn the house down" as a solution to our problem at the time actually. Nothing rolls up the welcome mat quite like a little anonymous arson.
