I see a distinction between living in filth and being a hoarder.

Hanging onto every piece of clothing, large scrap of fabric, newspaper, etc. that you've run across in the last 20 years makes you a hoarder. Hoarders hang onto things because they feel they have some past connection or future value. Heck, some of them are actually neatly stacked and well organized save for the fact that their house is like a maze through stacks of stuff.

Having 800 fast food cups full of mold, thousands of cigarette butts, piles of fast food packaging, and a corner with feces and used toilet paper makes you a filthy fuck who needs to clean up after yourself.

that augustine chick was the absolute worst ive seen on the show

the woman with the 74 dead cats was a distant second

and thats sayin a HELL of a lot when 74 dead cats is still better than that augustine chicks house

sad that her kids want nothin to do with her, but damned if she aint earn it

interestin how she was probably the least resistant and didnt make many demands, but then again it was like she removed herself from the reality and the situation completely

^^are these people not hoarding because they are attached to this random shit? watch the show, these aint just people that are too lazy to take out the trash, some of these people are fuckin attached to the hair their dogs shed

it only becomes filthy when they can make their way to certain points in the house anymore to make repairs...or shit in a decent commode, thats when hoarding starts to morph into what you see on the show

what the hell do you think happens when you hang onto shit for 20 years??

o and socks is an idiot troll or just an idiot

It's been a while since I've watched the show. You might be right, but I still think there is a distinction between the two and the show just looks for people who have a combination of both traits.

i find it far-fetched that a television show would look for the worst case scenario to incite interest

its not like they are fabricating this shit

i dont want to see some dude with a toenail collection covering his dresser

i wanan see the absolute worst society has to offer because that is effective at making the public aware of and possibly curtailing lesser instances before they reach the magnitude of what you see on the TV

hell it makes me think about how i keep my home

When I worked for the animal shelter we had a lady who was hoarding 33 cats in a hotel room. She had a "do not disturb" sign on the door and the reason the hotel found out is because the smell got so bad they finally just went in there when no one answered. She hadn't been cleaning up after them and she claimed she kept the non-neutered males separate from the non-spayed females (yeah right). The cats were skinnyyyy and had ear mites so bad their ears were all disfigured and mutilated (from them batting so much ).

The hotel made her leave, so she put all 33 cats in 6 animal carriers (2 medium-large dog crates and 4 cat crates) and left them on the side of the road because something was going on where she was taking them to a barn?... Anyway, animal control picked them up and she flipped out and called all hysterical. They sent the call to where I was... Totally batshit. She asked me which ones were there, then clarified that she wanted to know their names. Craziness.

nicpic -- it's on A&E, after Intervention

Thanks, boss!

Watching on Netflix today. Just watched an episode where the dude had over 2500 free roaming rats!

The one my sister and I watched yesterday was HILARIOUS! Lady had a big farmhouse but couldn't live in it because she had filled it with stuff. She was sleeping in a windowless trailer, along with 200 chickens. The other couple on that episode had rabbits that had taken over the house. They were renting and the owners lived out of state and had to fly down for the taping.

Reading this thread inspired me to tackle a portion of the junk mail that has been piling up on the kitchen table for months.

Yes, I'm a bachelor that lives in squalor. I've been saving all the shit that I have to shred, though, which is why the pile has built up. I'd just recycle it otherwise, haha.
