There's no arguing the win percentages and ppg between Herb's teams and Lowe's teams. Those are facts and Herb's comes out on top. But if you take a poll of people's opinions as to which team was less "boring" in the strictest sense of the word, I would think Lowe's team wins hands down. Unfortunately that's about all they win, as they are 2-5 over the last 2 years in games coming down to last second shots (pulling these numbers from the top of my head).
Regardless, I think the bigger issue people have with Herb was that his teams had plateaued. They were never going to make it past the Sweet 16. While getting to the dance is great, what's the point if every time you go, you're gonna see the hot chicks leave with other dudes (speaking metaphorically)? That's about as exciting as a handjob on your honeymoon.
Your counterargument would be "at least we got to the dance with Herb, and had a chance, however remote. Lowe can't even do that." To which I would say, he hasn't done it yet. I say give him until the 6th year like Herb got to make the dance, and if he hasn't made it by then, get rid of him in favor of someone we think is more likely to get us there.
V more should have been less...but again, like ppg, the point is moot. Entertaining bball isn't always winning bball

depends on who you poll
ask the Loony Fringe over at Prick Pride, and they'll argue that Herb's was 100x more boring1/4/2010 3:31:27 PM |

The talent Lowe inherited was more similar to what Herb's first few seasons than his last few (partially due to what Herb left and partially due to the poor handling of the transition costing Sidney 2/3 of a recruiting class). I'm fine with comparing Lowe's first 3-4 years to Herb's.
Herb was 53-44 through 3 seasons. Sidney was 51-46. 1/4/2010 3:42:03 PM |

Also nothing we have seen is remotely as bad as the 2000-2001 Damien Wilkens pump fake for 35 seconds and heave a desperation 3 season. 1/4/2010 3:50:07 PM |

i never argued about who's team scored more and won more (although just judging the first 3 years, herb just barely won more. barely). i was just pointing out that it's pretty hilarious that you'll get here sometimes and act like you don't know why people call you a herb-lover, when it's pretty obvious why people call you that.
and i disagree strongly. this season's team has been much more exciting than most of herb's boring teams.

You've got to be kidding me. You are usually one of the smartest posters on here.
Herb did not have ANY top 100 recruits in his first 4 years much less a McDonald's All-American.
Herb's first season the starting five was Jeremy Hyatt, Ishua Benjamin, Danny Strong, Justin Gainey, and CC Harrison. How could that possibly compare with Ben McCauley, Courtney Fells, Gavin Grant, Brandon Costner, and Engin Atsur? If you are telling me these two fives are equal, then clearly all of you are delusional.1/4/2010 5:53:55 PM |

64% right now, good for a 4-way tie at 289

This is just a dumb thread at this point. There's no secret why we aren't winning. We suck defensively. The offense on the other hand is a bright spot.
If someone had told us we'd be in the top 50 nationally in offense this year, every single person on this board would have done backflips. 2/4/2010 8:26:42 AM |

Seriously, though, offensive efficiency is far more important than PPG... unless you think VMI is amazing.
