i'm now on the stationary bike an hour a day (at least that's what i try to do) so reading this much wouldn't be out of the question for me

i just finished the Blind Side and really enjoyed it.

I can't either. I get too sweaty and the movement throws me off. Instead I stare at the TV.

not that this is the thread to discuss this, but with digital paper and e-ink it's not like reading at length from your typical screen. it doesn't strain your eyes like lcds do. it looks and feels (to my eyes) just like paper.

eInk looks nothing like an LCD screen

it's pretty amazing...when I got my kindle I thought there was a transparent film on the screen that was displaying the image......turns out it was just the eInk

I used to do that in high school when i wasn't always busy.

i kinda miss reading. it takes me about a month to finish books now.

I've gone over 1 1/2 years to finish a book before. In fact, there's one I'm "reading" right now that I started in May 2008, and I don't think I've touched it once in 2009. But I still intend to finish it.

Well I know I'm for sure going to reread Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief before the movie comes out.

just picked up 6 books from the library and put 3 on hold I doubt I can wait until Friday to start reading but I'll try!

Reading is really easy for me when my favorite shows have reruns. New shows start Monday though

I'm a slow reader so I seriously doubt I would read 52 books unless we were talking shit like Meet Felicity.

I think this sounds fun but I don't know if I could do one a week...

Shawna...is someone borrowing your Lovely Bones after you? Maybe I can start with that one.*

Do you most of you buy your books from places or borrow them from the library? We could have weekly book swaps or something!

I'll pass on the book-a-week idea. I don't need to pick up a hobby that involves me spending more time inside and alone.

reading is only productive if the content you are reading is worth a shit. just because someone managed to get a book published doesn't mean it's going to make you a better person if you read it. and fiction is for fags - next time i want to take a trip inside the mind of some hippie writer i'll just eat shrooms thank you very much

Count me in. My first book is Suze Orman's 9 steps to financial freedom. After that, The World Is Flat.

this is an awesome idea, but I know I won't have the dedication to follow through, especially once day light saving time starts up again.

not when there's grass to mow, flowers to plant, gardens to tend, shed to paint, porch to build, vehicle to wash, bikes to ride, steaks to grill, and beer to drink

i could do an audio book per week, i suppose. i spend a lot of time in traffic.

Not with me. I've always been an avid reader but a slow one. I like going over every word like it has some sort of deeper significance even though I know it mostly doesn't. Mostly.

I think fucking around on the internet is preferable to reading. Especially if you're just going to read fiction. I can't think of a bigger waste of time than that.

Here's a website I've been using for awhile:

http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/

It's been down a lot lately, but I'm hoping they get it fixed.

You can create your own list of books that you like and they will give you recommendations based on that.

Do you guys use paperbackswap? It's a website that lets you list old books you don't want, so other people can request them. You mail them, and then you can request a book from someone else. They have a bunch of books listed, and I've never had any problem finding something I was interested in. It's easy and you can buy postage right from there and then just put the book in your mailbox. You get a couple free books when you first sign up after you list some of your own books to get you started. If you're interested, I'd appreciate it if you'd use this link to register, so I will get credit:
