http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_(mathematics)

Read this.

You need a stronger grasp of what a function is.

I remember a lot of shit, I've forgotten a lot of shit.

Mostly I remember stuff I've had to use on occasion and forgotten shit that I didn't find useful or can be easily referenced; who was president in 1840 or stuff that will never be relevant to anyone unless they are a tour guide like just about everything regarding the lost colony.

And yet somehow exactly as useful as you'd imagine.

Yeah, it's not a matter of not understanding it or grasping the material, it's just that I haven't used any of that in so long. Over a decade for Algebra and Trig stuff, about 8 or 9 years for Pre-Calc.

I'm just re-reading the prep chapter in this Calc textbook, and I found some great lessons on http://www.khanacademy.org/

I figure if I give myself a crash course in trig and pre-calc I'll be good for the semester.

Also I'll be sending McDanger an extraordinary amount of PMs.

Yeah man... a critical analysis of aspects of one of the most important forms of communication in our lifetime is totally useless. Quantitative fields 4 life.

I think you'll probably be fine in MA141. It's a pretty easy class. Once you brush up on a few things and stay a chapter ahead of the class when studying it'll be a walk.

I flunked 241 the first time after getting an A in 141. Of course I flunked 4 out of 5 classes that semester (I had some issues that semester) and then smoked it the following semester.

Please explain to me the usefulness of an in-depth understanding of the Soviet-style montage in postmodern horror.

I did.

Now I did sleep through them, but I still totally had some! We never discussed montages in postmodern horror though and let me tell you, Saw either 3 or 4 has this kickin rad one.

CompSci said they weren't the right department for my interests in web development, so they sent me to Communication.

I'm sure you'll be up to speed in no time once you delve into it. After I graduated, I was thinking about learning as many programming languages as possible to put on my resume, but I got a job that taught me how to code. It's funny just how quickly you pick things up, when it is necessary, so that you will meet your deadlines. A traditional classroom setting would probably be too slow for me nowadays. For me, it isn't realistic anymore to take an entire semester to deliver comprehensive results when revenue is on the line.

Yes because art is opinion based. No need for a critic to tell me what is good and not good in the world of art.

Do you need a music critic to tell you what music is good and bad to? I couldn't imagine making those decisions on my own. So hard for me to tell what i like and don't like. What would happen if someone didn't tell me what was good and not. The world would probably end. Thanks god for art critics.

Yes, but what makes a Picasso a great work of art? What makes Citizen Kane a great film?

If you can't understand how Citizen Kane is a culturally significant and revolutionary film, there's no helping you.

he probably doesn't know their history, which would make him incapable of understanding

as for picasso, well you can't get that, you lack a fundamental human quality and you should be sterilized

you don't have to like it to recognize it

Unrelatedly, my MA141 professor wore the same thing every day of the semester.

I dunno if he had a bunch of the same clothes or just wore the same set over and over.

FOIL is for those who don't/can't develop a deeper/logical understanding of basic algebra.

It is all a matter of logic and seeing patterns. Memorizing formulas and mnemonics are for those who just want to pass. Unfortunately, a big chunk of the educators' community furthers such techniques.

It's nice to do it in a standard way because it makes it easier to spot peoples mistakes (I would assume grading as well).

Feel free to continue to rant.

I took this class a few years ago my freshman year. The highest math I took in high school was algebra III/Trig so I had no fucking idea what I was getting myself into. My advice to you is to gtfo if you are not an engineering major. I thought I wanted to do engineering and took this class when my major was First Year College. Later I decided to do Biology and would only have needed to take MA121. OOps.

With regards to this class and having no experience in high school with calculus, this class sucks so much monkey dick. If shit could shit it would be the product of this class. Maybe it is just because I had a professor who did not speak a word while he just mindlessly wrote equations on the board. Needless to say it was one of the handful of C's I got while attending NCSU along with its predesesor (sp?) MA242. Fuck calculus I hope it dies a painful death

Well you will have to invent a time machine to go back 400 years to kill Newton and Leibniz (as well as all mathematicians and scientists since them).

But, without calculus, we won't have the technologies we have today, so that means no time machine for you.
