i find it interesting that of my female friends who posted this type of sentiment on their fb pages this weekend, every single one of them was married.

i dont really do the traditional presents, no card, etc, and the girl's ok with that.

however, she wanted to for me, so w/e

concert tickets, bigass bag of small nerds boxes, some fun things, a card, and one of these

perhaps the security of a contract legally binding them to half of their husband's income assuaged their insecurity about the future and thus rendered artificially motivated displays of affection superfluous.

Or perhaps their husbands had decided they'd had enough of the commercialized crap and said screw it, while the women were left to justify the lack of affection and their secret longing for romance on Facebook.

Or perhaps they're cool chicks who appreciate the cost of Valentines Day and the budgetary restrictions of the current economic unpleasantness.

flowers were delivered to her work on wednesday so she could have them in her office for a few days

we had a party saturday night, so we slept in until noon yesterday

then we got up and made breakfast together, cleaned up the house from the night before, and i started spackling (the house is old and the drywall has settled a bit, so there are some small cracks and ridge areas)...i had dinner planned (pecan-crusted baked salmon, honey roasted red potatoes, and grilled asparagus with roasted tomatoes), but we both decided a frozen pizza was better considering we were tired...so we made that, poured some wine, and watched the simpsons and HGTV

i gave her two silver necklaces (different lengths and styles), some lindt ultra dark truffles, and a few other things i will not mention on here...she gave me a 60-minute full-body massage session at le paris (we do tango with the owner, so we usually go together since she gives us a heavy discount)

i'll make the dinner tonight or wednesday night and give her her card

You sure she's OK with that? She did buy you all that other stuff.

If she truly is then you lucked out, brother. Marry that one.

aha my caps attack comment at the top of the page was directed to someone on the prior page bitching about how they didn't get/do enough for V Day

i truly think that V Day is a total waste of money and just another excuse to give gifts and do "sweet and loving" things. i felt this way when single, when dating, and still feel this way now that i'm married. if you need a specific day to show your significant other that you love them, then you've got more problems than a 3hr wait for a steak at Outback.

hubby "got me" a bag of chocolate covered macadamia nuts because i've been craving them for weeks and unable to find them at Harris Teeter. thoughtful, sweet, and cheap! and last night we went to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner. not because he had to take me out, but because i had a BOGOFree coupon and wanted some awesome salad.

I think Valentine's Day shouldn't be just about showing the one you're with the love for them but everyone you love -- I think of it as a day of appreciation. Sometimes you get caught up in everything going in your life and I kinda see the day as a way to stop and really tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Sure I still tell my Mama, friends, etc, that I love 'em at random times but I see it kind of in the same light as Thanksgiving.. you could give thanks for what you have any day of the week but that day serves as a reminder and special celebration.

Well I woke up expecting it to be another boring day, instead I reconnected with an ex and we talked for a lot of the day and it actually made the day not suck quite as much

yeah she's pretty rad

i mean it's not like i didnt do anything, i just dont do the sappy bullshit.

i prefer to spend money on experiences and stuff rather than sending flowers or something cliche

i've bookd us a vacation relatively soon, and am considering that gift sufficient to cover "vday"

I agree with this sentiment. V-Day is such a Halmark holiday. And I can't stand waiting in line for dinner. Sweet Tomatoes is a much better call. My best vday date was when Noen and I were both single 4 years ago and we decided to go to Moe's and then watch the Olympics later.

That said, I did get a badass shirt this year! So I really shouldn't bash the holiday.

I made my gf a homemade pizza with low-fat ingredients as well as a slideshow on my computer set to Michael Buble. She cried, I win.

I also got her a couple little things from Sur La Table.

I got an NC State snuggie!!!!

I cooked a few nice fat strip steaks and made twice baked potatoes (yum!). We had some afternoon delights, then spent the evening with a newly single friend and her dog as her valentines support group and watched the Sunday cartoons. I made toasted marshmallow milkshakes for everybody. The animals were adorable and cuddled. It was a great day.

He got me an iPod Touch (mine got stolen about a month ago), which was a pleasant surprise- he knew how much I missed having my music!

The puppy's undying love and affection was pretty much his gift.

Got her a spa package and dance lessons gift certificate (might regret that last one because I'm pretty sure I have to be involved).

Cooked a bad ass dinner of stuffed leg of lamb with roasted potatoes and spinach, then made a bananas foster for desert. Went through two bottles of wine while doing all of this and watching True Blood and Weeds episodes on TV.

I'm not a Valentines Day person...but it was a pretty good one.

That wins this thread. A friend of mine in highschool's girlfriend lived in New Jersey, and she coordinated something like that with him mom, it was adorable.

Also, props to people who leave surprises, especially flowers at work.

Us single folk are going out drinking (probably FS and then Fayetteveille St.) and really hoping my jaded, emo roommate is inappropriate to as many girls as possible.

i don't know what i'm doing. probably nothing because i don't really care and need to studyyy.

if someone feels the need to give me a gift though i'd love an io?ion! watch OR a massage (a real one from a trained person)

but i think i'm going to get a massage for myself. like. tomorrow. because my back is freaking killing me.

/tangent

^ maybe you should have a "fuck valentine's day" party for single people with a pinata full of mini bottles!!!! and sweet tart hearts cause those rule. and only single girls can get in. except for me because it was my idea. and then you can have the pick of the flock. and maybe dress up as a king with a scepter and a crown. and we can listen to queen of hearts by juice newton!

party! party! party! or making inapprop comments on fayetteville st. whichever

also off my facebook

where i saw someone was having one (a guy). and i thought about valentine's day.

but i added the juice newton part!!! and the scepter part. all by myself. so there.

and you just admitted you have seen valentine's day hehe

p.s. also i'd prefer a unicorn pinata instead of a heart pinata because unicorns are awesomer

Never really got why people have those. I guess just an excuse to drink legitimately. I think Pat is the only of us that is actually jaded about girls and dating in general. I mean I understand it, but I'm not there yet and I highly doubt I ever will be. Being single on Valentine's Day doesn't bother me one bit.

did the Jimmy Eat World concert make him even more emo? He didn't seem that way when he met up with me at the bar afterwards. However i got pretty drunk and do not recall the later parts of the night.
