Fuck, this game is nothing but bad luck. I went to play for the first time yesterday and PS3 armageddon ensues. So, Sony fixes that problem and now, I download the fucking game and the audio of my entire PS3 goes out. Did anyone else have THIS problem? I swear, I'm on the verge of saying "fuck this game" and I haven't even played it yet.

You mean you downloaded the demo? I've played both the demo and regular game and have never experienced that problem. Then again, I haven't tried playing it yet since the whole PSN crash happened.

yeah, I popped in the game tonight and had to download a portion of the game to the hard drive. Now, no only is there no sound in the game, but the audio is fucked for everything else on the PS3.

I haven't heard of that problem. I also had to download some stuff to my hard drive when I first put the disc in, but didn't have a problem after that. There was also an update patch I had to download, did you download and install that as well?

Welp, I missed out on all of the leap year fun only to find out that my save game will no longer load. I guess at this point my only option is to start over which really sucks considering I was almost done with the game.

I just got to the point in the game where you can use a hooker to help you talk to a guy at a party, to give you some idea about the progress without giving away anything important to the story.

So far I'm having a blast, although I had to replay through about 5 "levels" because I accidentally selected the option where it wouldn't save. Oh well, no biggie. I'm really intrigued about the story and have some guesses as to the ending but who knows if they'll play out. If nothing else, I'm interested to see how my tactic of making as many characters as possible into drug addicts and alcoholics will play out.

Sorry for the double post, but...

Finished the game tonight. The ending surprised me, to say the least. If this were a movie, there are certain plot elements that might turn me off, but for a video game...damn. The last 4 hours or so, I had both my roommates and one of their girlfriends watching, insisting that I not stop playing because they wanted to see how things played out. A lot of intense sequences leading up, and the climax had us all paying pretty rapt attention (though at that point, mostly to see if I fucked up on my button-pressing). Either way, if the concept intrigues you at all I recommend it highly. One of the most involving games I have ever played.

All of that said, I feel compelled to offer my few complaints...

1) One of the common problems mentioned is the voice acting. I gather that the company making the game is based in France, and so too, clearly, are many of the actors. Sometimes they pull it off. Sometimes they don't. A fair chunk of our entertainment came from making fun of Norman Jayden, in particular the way he pronounces his name. If you're the kind of guy that can't watch Braveheart because Mel Gibson isn't Scottish, you won't like the game.

2) At times the camera angles could get confusing. Normally this just amounted to mild annoyance, but at times it risked the life of the character I was controlling.

3) As I suggested above, there are some plot elements that don't quite seem to add up. Sadly I can't say much more about this without revealing major points.

4) From what I can tell through my playing and some research after, only a handful of decisions really affect the end of the game -- and even these "decisions" have more to do with you fucking up pressing buttons than with choices. That said, some variation exists, and even when your choices don't affect the end they still impact how you interpret the characters.

---

These problems aside, I thought it was a great game.

So having beat the game, will any of you play it again?

Or is this more of a rental?

I think in about 4-5 years I will be purchasing a PS3 when the next gen consoles come out and want to pick up a lot of these games I've heard fantastic things about

I'm going to play through it again from a certain point (though probably not the beginning), then I'll trade it in at Gamestop.

I agree 100% with some plot points not adding up.

However, I will prolly play through at least twice more.

Once to see how quickly I can kill every one off, once more for a happier ending.

Fucking awesome game... before if you told me if I wanted to play a game with only quicktime events, I would of laughed at you.

Offers a pretty unique experience.

went to blockbuster to rent this today and a guy told me they didn't have a copy within 50 miles

they only had one copy so either blockbuster dropped the ball or like the guy said, the game companies only let them have but so many copies

probably knew this was just a rental so didn't give many copies

Maybe, but I went to Best Buy twice -- once the day after it came out and once a week later. Both times it had two spots on the shelf for the game, and both times it was sold out.

It's telling that my roommates (who didn't even play the game, just watched me play it) still talk about the game and the characters several days later. Sometimes it's disparaging (making fun of Norman Jayden's American accent hasn't gotten old yet), but a lot of the time it isn't. We've all accused each other of being the origami killer many times. We've all quoted several of the scenes as though it were a film. Whenever anyone makes the slightest mistake driving, reference is made to the relevant sequence in the game. Sure, it won't last very long, but the fact that we keep coming back to the game without having played it in days makes it unique in my play experience, anyway.

I was able to pick up a used copy (and there were a couple more) for a whopping $5 less than retail.

The first time I played it was before I went to bed, and I had some pretty stressful dreams...

I just got this on Gamefly and loved it

My only complaint is the absolutely HORRID walking controls. Everything else was good. Awesome story.

[Edited on July 6, 2010 at 12:23 PM. Reason : It's definitely an awesome change of pace from your typical video game]

Heavy Rain Move is about the only thing that's making me consider getting Move on day one. I always wanted to play Heavy Rain, but never had a chance. The demos of it with Move looked really good, actually way more fun than the crappy QTEs in the demo I played. It seems like it's the game he originally wanted to make, but SIXAXIS was too crappy to allow them to implement proper motion controls. Hopefully they make the patch that adds Move controls free.

Oh by the way, the Taxidermist expansion level for Madison is one of the biggest ripoffs for downloadble content that I've ever seen. Don't buy it. Its short, has no baring on the original story, and there are no trophies for it.

rotating the six axis seemed to never work especially when rotating to the right

during the driving scene i was yelling so many obscenities

eventually i just started trying to rotate the controller 180 degrees instead of the 90 it wanted

i really looked like a retard trying to do that

Yeah I played this back in April...I agree with the oddly paced comment. Great graphics and all but I dunno.....it's like Choose your own adventure which I guess is ok, but I'm more of a fan of RE type games so.....

plus, I heard the guy who made it had the hope of making people cry when playing...errrr....I did not...

the consumer consensus is way below the critic consensus on metacritic for this game

that is a good thing in my opinion

I use blockbuster. It's badass. (until they go under )

--------------------
I liked it a lot. It was uncanny valley the whole time and the accents were out of place, but to play a game where the story was everything was refreshing.

I missed a few pretty awesome scenes the first time through. I left the construction site scene and the creepy old man's house before shit got real. Those were fun to replay.

Played through and finished over the last week. Overall, I was very engrossed the entire game. The story is great and the people are genuinely interesting. Voice acting and script were generally pretty good (they're fucking phenomenal by video game standards), but I agree that there are some plot holes, like why the Origami Killer was so closely involved in everything.

Quote :
"rotating the six axis seemed to never work especially when rotating to the right"

That was a HUGE problem for me. I also had problems getting the quarter-circle/half-circle motions to register during fight scenes. Both problem caused me to lose two of my characters in the last scene. Pretty annoying.
