i don't think anyone would have a problem with "who are you" if he didn't preceed the question by grabbing the kid's arm and not letting go, after first hitting the camera, and then later grabbing the kid...its not like they went to his house and rang his doorbell and did this...they were on the sidewalk and he walked by

It has nothing to do with whether he was in the right in that situation, it has to do with whether it's worth making a huge deal out of and endlessly regurgitating it on the news. yes, reporters are required to identify themselves as a matter of course before interviewing someone especially a national politician.

yes, politicians are especially vulnerable to being asked loaded questions by persons intent on portraying them out of context to make them appear in a negative light, with the goal of damaging their credibility.

and maybe, the "reporters" in question are even acting illegally in some manner by accosting a congressman who may have been on his way to official business. I am not a lawyer, so im just supposing it could be possible.

however, i dont think a congressman has the right to physically restrain/arrest/imprison a citizen/reporter who doesnt properly identify themselves according to protocol.

and even if they do have that right, the perception is going to be that the old fuckwit has made himself look like an unhinged douchebag.

he should have had more sense than to physically assault some college-aged kid with a camera. if he had walked by without comment, no one would have ever even seen the video.
