Coo. It's just more reasonable for empirical propositions that typically can't receive something as rigorous and precise as proof. Proof's a pretty high bar -- it doesn't even gather all of the true mathematical propositions under its umbrella.

haha, i see your point, but why don't you give it a whirl before you assume you know what a halfway intelligent, logical person might say? i'm IN science and i believe wholeheartedly that the burden of proof falls with the one making the assertion...i am not of the camp that thinks the absence of evidence against an assertion makes the assertion valid until proven otherwise

you should, though, respect the right of a person or group of people to BELIEVE anything they want...and you can't pick and choose which rules to apply to them and which rules to apply to yourself...i doubt you would argue that there are things you "believe" in that neither you nor anyone else can actually demonstrate at the moment (alien life of any kind, the higgs boson, etc) and i feel like most religions fall into this same category

the problem is that people draw this imaginary line between things of science (those things considered to be outside of our control) and things that are anything BUT science (those things we choose for ourselves like morality and religion)...both sides are pretty bad about separating them without allowing for the possibility that they might share some basic components

that's the REAL problem...some people on both sides are too retarded to acknowledge the FACT that they may not be entirely correct in their beliefs
