Vaping is probably the only thing less attractive than actually smoking. At least some people look cool while smoking, everyone looks like a tool while vaping

well fortunately for me I vape in order to kick the nasty habit of inhaling thousands of chemicals into my lungs. I started smoking at 16 because i thought it was "cool" to impress some chick with big cans who loved to burn cigs. I can now safely hit my vape, not smell like shit, not stain my teeth, and run 3 miles without stopping. Oh yeah, and anybody who uses the word "tool", is a fucking hack in my book.

The primary concern is there's no regulation or studies on if e-ciggs are harmful.

There's been a lot of news lately on the subject:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101639987

Quote :
"But new research suggests that, even without a match, some popular e-cigarettes get so hot that they, too, can produce a handful of the carcinogens found in cigarettes and at similar levels.

A study to be published this month in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research found that the high-power e-cigarettes known as tank systems produce formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, along with the nicotine-laced vapor that their users inhale. The toxin is formed when liquid nicotine and other e-cigarette ingredients are subjected to high temperatures, according to the study. A second study that is being prepared for submission to the same journal points to similar findings."

It's studies done by the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. They're just publishing in there. I don't know anything else in terms of credibility.

I do however know that vaporizing liquids in plastic containers and directly inhaling said vapor should be something that is regulated as I can see how that would be harmful.

a lot of the vaporizers I've seen use glass containers for the actual liquid

yeah, i use glass only. I dont sit around and puff on the thing 24/7, just hit it here and there when i want a cig and my cravings go away. It works if you use it in the right manner with the proper products.

and of course you are going to see these types of reports when a new product cuts business out of an long existing industry.

Just picked up an adjustable voltage Kangertech battery and a mini nautilus tank. I love being able to adjust both the air flow and the voltage.

I've seen the ones where you can adjust the voltage and amps. Crazy.

--haha but yeah a lot of the articles I posted were on the cheaper plastic tanks. I think glass is definitely better.

I've cut back smoking a shit load, but I find it impossible to go to a show and not smoke 500 cigs.

I found that if I take my e-cig with me to work and just leave it in the car then I don't use it or even think about it all day, AND I don't get that "I need to go buy smokes for no reason" urge.

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

I was never a big smoker except for shows and social drinking.

I have never been a smoker (except an occasional cigar with friends)... Can someone with experience comment on the the addictive properties of e-cigs? I would assume that the ease/convenience of these devices would make picking up an addiction easier than regular cigarettes. In my job I have seen the prevalence of these devices among teens who might not normally take up smoking. They are harder to detect due to smell, and there has been a huge surge of these in schools over the past few years.

I would assume that big tobacco might benefit greatly from this trend in the few years by getting young folks hooked early.

All of this is of course my own observation and I have not read up on the statistics.

The e-juice I got doesn't have nicotine. It's more of an oral fixation like biting your fingernails and if you just like the sensation of smoke/vapor. I also like gadgets so it's kind of everything in one.

I wouldn't have guessed this to be the case, because it's much easier to get addicted to things that are really fun, and imho

real cigarettes >>>>> e-cigarettes

They're just not nearly as satisfying as real cigarettes...I'm not sure why, but I think the fire/smoke has something to do with it.

Plus, getting addicted directly to e-cigarettes is one of the lamest things I can think of.

Never was really a regular smoker. Smoked at parties, shows, and when I drink a lot. Well I did in college. Haven't bought a pack in over a year now. Just bum them when I get drunk. The ejuice without nicotine is nice. You can get it from most stores without nicotine then they just add the nicotine when you buy it if you want.

Yeah but you're like not smoking real cigarettes... I'd rather occasionally vape then smoke a half a pack of ciggs at a show then feel like complete shit the next morning.

This doesn't make any sense. The whole reason vapes have nicotine is so people can stop smoking real cigarettes and switch to something without the smoke and tar. I know quite a few people who've quit real cigarettes and switched to vaping and they feel way better (obviously). It helps people quit.

to each his own

I didn't usually smoke 10 cigarettes in a night unless I was drinking (in which case it was fine, somehow the beer washed much of the cigarette residue away)

to each his own

Also, when I say "getting addicted directly to e-cigarettes," I'm referring to people (kids these days, apparently) who don't ever smoke real cigarettes, but start with e-cigarettes and get addicted to nicotine directly via those. If that doesn't seem pretty lame to you, then we'll have to agree to disagree, I suppose.

I'm fairly active and even smoking 2 cigarettes at 12,000k feet then skiing for 6 hours the next day is a nightmare. You can just feel it in your lungs. It's been great being able to get drunk and hit a vaporizer and feel great the next day. Not to mention I can pick up THC oil legally at almost any shop on the corner.

^Gotcha that makes sense.

Why is getting addicted to e-cigarettes lame but getting addicted to regular cigarettes not?

They both seem about the same level of lameness to me.

I started as a smoking cessation thing, but too much into gadgets to completely drop the habit. I haven't had analogue in quite some time, but damn I have like 4 mods and a handful of RBAs and other rebuildables. I hover around 12mg but can deal with 6mg most of the time. I even dropped like 300 bucks on that DNA 30 device then flipped it on reddit for what I paid. That's just too much to spend on a device imo.

4 years later though....

To me it seems lamer. You're not even getting addicted to the real thing, but to a lower-quality substitute.

It's like, oh, I don't know, getting an STD from a really ugly chick.

Have you ever hit a really nice vape? It's arguably much nicer than a cigarette. It's an entirely different thing. To me it's almost like a nice hookah without the tar.

no

I really don't feel like any sort of vapor is going to compare to the smoke and fire of a cigarette...at least not for me

if nothing else, I've got too many positive associations with it

and it's raw and primordial

I don't smoke

But I saw a cherry flavored e-cig the other day and said fuck it, I'm curious what it tastes like.

It burned the ever living shit out of my throat I guess nicotine and I don't get along? What else would be in there that'd cause that?

So getting a cheap e-cig from a gas station is like getting a cheap cigarette or even worse. Cheap e-cigs are nothing like a nice vape set up. Entirely different experience. A nice vape set up won't burn and it much cooler and you get way more vaper from it. Those ones you buy at a gas station are complete crap.

^^ & ^ no heat - it was def a "chemical"(irritation) burn

but having a "legit" setup may help

I just have zero desire to do that. I was just curious

I don't know anyone who picked up an e-cig just to try it and got hooked; the only folks I know who smoke them were previous cigarette smokers. Some use them in situations where they can't smoke (like at their desk at work), others have switched over and mostly quit the real ones.

Another co-worker showed up the other day with an e-pipe. Very peculiar-looking device but he likes it.

so can someone break down the basics of the vape system? I see some people that seem to have really minimal looking devices that hide well and you barely know you are using them. and then i see people out there that have ones that are 10-inches long with huge R2D2 looking mouth pieces and what looks to be some electronic battery pack dangling off the end.
