this isn't the thread for it, but let me just say that if unc manages to do something stupid like win the nit, and all offseason i have to hear about how they came together as a team down the stretch and how proud of his team roy williams is etc etc, i'm going to be fucking livid.
let me just put that out there. 3/17/2010 5:45:17 PM |

Has any team ever knocked two consecutive teams out of a postseason tournament that were from the same congressional district?
Because Mississippi State is going to do just that.

does anyone know why johnny thomas hasnt been playing for the last...season?
i have heard that he is playing more now because sidney has been trying to keep the teams legs fresh. but aside from having a flat shot, and looking kinda rusty, i dont see any reason why he hasnt been playing. his defense is good, and he can create his own shot (kinda).
(and dont say its cause of his knee. ive been watching him dunk off the backboard and between his legs and stuff before every game this season.) 3/18/2010 1:34:52 PM |

He had a respectable game against USF, but he played poorly in almost every other game in which he saw minutes this season...that's the reason he is a little used reserve. Also, are you really going to argue he should be getting more of Woods' minutes? Because that's fucking stupid.

Mays sucks too, but Gonzo has stretches of equally bad play so he gets PT. I realize you were impressed by what you saw from Thomas against USF, but you obviously weren't paying attention the rest of the season when Thomas was turning over the ball whenever he got his hands on it and allowing the other team to completely ignore him on offense. 3/18/2010 3:54:37 PM |

he has 2 turnovers on the season
and we have lots of people that can be ignored on offense...that will change next year though3/18/2010 3:59:11 PM |

Yeah I think you could make the argument that you could ignore Mays, Williams or TBDV on offense also and they get more playing time than JT. 3/18/2010 4:00:56 PM |

That's because he has only played more than 4 minutes in a game twice this year.
Quote : | "and we have lots of people that can be ignored on offense...that will change next year though" |
Maybe so, but Scott Wood isn't one of them
Bottom line is, Thomas has had 1 game all season where he's been marginally productive and you think that means he should get more playing time?

he's athletic
and maybe he's actually improved enough over the course of the season that Sid now feels comfortable playing him

I don't think anyone is arguing that JT should take any of Scott Wood's minutes, but it is odd that he never got any of Josh Davis's minutes until just recently. It's something I was curious about early in the season and everyone said it was obviously because he was never the same after his knee injury, but he looked fine the last few games. 3/18/2010 4:11:55 PM |

I'm pretty sure he got minutes in the USF game because Wood got in foul trouble early in the 1st half, but I guess you could argue that Sid felt more comfortable playing him than Davis at this point in the season.

Not really, Davis was playing really well until we got into conference play.
I think you can find a lot of faults in Sid's coaching this season, but Johnny Thomas not getting enough minutes is NOT one of them. Next your going to tell me we should play Enrico Kufor more.

^^I'm not faulting Lowe at all. I've been a fan of his since he got here. I was more curious than anything.
When I asked about why it seemed like JT was getting no PT early in the season, who I had remembered at least being extremely athletic and a decent head on his shoulders, was getting beat out by not one, but two freshmen, everyone told me it was because of the injury. Now it's pretty clear that that wasn't the case and something else must be going on.
Yes, Davis has gotten less time as we have gotten deep into conference play (pretty much coinciding with CJ re-emerging), but it's not as if JT started filling in for that missed time. JT got 17 minutes out of the blue on senior night after a season of not sniffing the court and seemingly held his own. Since then, he has gotten semi-regular time, meanwhile Josh Davis is buried on the bench. I'm not saying it's a bad decision. I'm glad to see JT get some time, but it is really freakin' weird.
