Should I say anything about last night, or would that come off as bitter (about a sub-.500 basement team, somehow...)?

Papelbon, Beckett, Lackey and Dice K have all been awful this year. Offense hasn't been the problem, defense has gotten better, pitching is terrible. This supposedly stacked rotation and pen has been the weakness all year. We're stuck with the guys in the rotation, but I wouldntmind seeing Theo address the pen ASAP.

We're nearing 10 GB of the Rays. I wouldn't mind shipping off a few players if we're still this far back at the end of May and loading up on prospects to deal in the offseason for some proven players like we did when we got Schilling in '03.

Agreed. Our bats have surprised me lately but the pitching has pretty much failed at the worst times possible all year.

No matter how bad the Sox have played this year - the Sox/Yanks games are always great games. Paps and Scutaro did their best to blow this one tonight, but they just pulled it out. That whole Beckett situation was weird, wouldn't be surprised to see him go to the DL.

He probably should go on the DL for a bit...get right! Maybe put Wake back in the rotation for a little while.

Also, I can't help but think there's something wrong with Paps..possibly hurt? I don't think he topped 93/94 last night. I wonder what we could get for him in a trade. Bard is ready for that spot and the longer we wait the shorter his closer career gets.

Beltre knocked out 2 HR's and Ortiz added another. Lackey wasn't great, but didn't do badly either. Heating up heading into an easier part of the schedule.

You can borrow my dick to suck on.

Pretty sure we're still top of the division/baseball.

And if it's so easy, how'd they lose to the Royals today?

Wouldn't exactly call anything "easy" if my team was swept by the worst team in the league.

It's nice to have more than 25,000 fans in the ballpark every night so you can afford to pay players. Let's wave bye to Crawford, Pena and company. Keep banging those ridiculous cowbells.

Other than the 2 losses to the Royals we've been playing really well lately, especially when Pedroia has been in such a terrible slump. V-Mart has been heating up, Ortiz turned it on in May and Buccholz/Lester have been virtually unstoppable. Not having a 3, 4 or 5 starter at this point still worries the hell out of me.

Pretty sure you've never been one of those "25,000 fans,"and...lol at the money you'd have to pay for getting in that place, and still combating with the locals/loyalists that hate your stupid asses...

Pretty sure Crawford's not goin' your way. And even if he did, what would you do with him?

Great win tonight guys, but...

2nd in payroll overall...

4th in division...

shit's gotta stop soon, right?

Gonna post some awesome Red Sox memories of late, in times that mattered:

Monday, July 14th, 2008
I am in attendance on the field for All-Star media day as Scott Van Pelt tells me that, "You can not let the Red Sox nation come in and steal your thunder, that's DISGUSTING!" and "We're not supposed to, but I think a lot of us are rooting for Tampa Bay," solidifying my belief that even the media is tired of bought and sold championships in the big markets.

September 27th, 2008
The Red Sox lose to their hated rival the New York Yankees, thereby handing the Tampa Bay Rays the outright A.L East title, giving the expansion franchise in their 11th total season as many such titles as the Sox had gotten in the previous 13 seasons.

October 12th, 2008
BJ Upton's sac fly lifts the underdog Rays over the Sox in the 11th to tie the ALCS at 1, still nobody thought the Rays had a chance in the series.

October 13th, 2008
As the media drooled over a red-hot John Lester and the lore of historic Fenway park, Matt Garza and the Rays came in without any intimidation. Garza shut out the Sox for the first 6 innings and the Rays destroyed Lester early, hitting 4 home runs to go on to a 9-1 route.

October 14th, 2008
Still not done making a statement, the Rays continued to dominate as Tampa Bay raced out to an 11-1 lead and went on to win by more than the day before, 13-4. By the seventh inning stretch, the embarrassed crowd was filing out. Very few people got to hear the sweet sounds of Sweet Caroline that night.

October 19th, 2008
With everyone in America outside the Tampa Bay clubhouse handing the Red Sox the AL trophy, as every media pundit says oh no here comes another Sox comeback, once again, Matt Garza and the Rays were not fazed. Garza was clutch, getting out of jam after jam, leading up to rookie David Price coming in to make history. David, exemplifying all the positive qualities of the organization, cooly mows down some of the leagues best and most experienced hitters. No longer does any Ray believe that there is anything inevitable about a Yankees or Red Sox victory. As Jonny Gomes topples the dog-pile on the mound it becomes clear that money doesn't always buy titles, and that team developed talent, smart play, fundamentals, chemistry, all the things baseball was founded on, still stand for something in the game.

Hahahahahaha Sorry, it's impossible to forget that moment

Good luck this year!

12 years of fail = 86 years of fail. Oh, wait...

Haha, even with the Phillies blow, you're not gonna make up for the amount of fail the people in Boston have had to deal with, nor the amount of people on that bandwagon they hate.

I think the latter is probably the funniest, most ironic part.

but I like me some V-Mart and Utley on my fantasy squad...and Beltre when I play him...like I did tonight...3/5 with a homer! also I hate the Athletics and the White Sox, and the Rangers beat the Sox and the A's are out of 1st in the West...technically

I wish the Cubs had two black players clearly on steroids, "almost" solely responsible for winning absolutely anything, ...so I could equally disperse my hatred to two failures of teams with a)completely obnoxious fan-bases, or b) fan-bases that didn't exist until their "team" was able to beat the Yankees. What's funny is that most of these people biting into my trolls about the Red Sox feel the same way about the Yankees, whom they've never been able to beat in anything that mattered in their century long career until 2004. It's pretty funny, actually. And the cherry on top is the severed head of Mr. Ted Williams.

I think it's pretty awesome we're trashing this sorry thread with this, so...

I'm not gonna get into the whole ethnicity thing. It was only a qualifier to determine who I was talking about. I mean, I'm pretty sure when I said "black," you didn't think I was referring to Trot Nixon.

However, I also want to say that judging from the way that Manny and that otherwise sober faggot Ortiz express melanin, and from the history of the Dominican Republic, I believe it's safe to call them black. So I don't see your point there.

And clearly, they were juicing. Just as A-Rod is. It's an unspoken thing. Like the relevance of umpires.

I've just heard players like Torii Hunter and Brandon Phillips mention, not necessarily negatively, that they as African Americans will see a dark skinned player like Ortiz for the first time, talk to him, and be like "wtf why arent they saying anything"

but anyway...there are three questions in the AL East this year in my mind:

1. Who will win the division between NYY and TB, and which will settle for the wildcard?
2. Who will finish in 3rd place, Boston or Toronto?
3. Who signs with another team first: Markakis or Adam Jones?

My biggest questions in this thread include these:

1. What is the proportion of B hats/lame car stickers sold to tickets to fenway purchased?
2. How many people supporting this team get kicked out of some lame sports bar regularly (with or without arrest)?
3. How can you sit there with a straight face when "Nation" is coined to your faggot fan-base?

There are others, sure, but just off the top of my head, those came to mind...

Mr. Scrumples is still mad in many threads. Theo Epstein must have killed this dude's dog.

Dice K goes tonight, who knows what we'll get. He went from a near no hitter against the Phillies to not even getting out of the 5th against the Royals. Rumor has it that Lowell may be getting moved soon as well.

That isn't a bad idea. Each of them have had a few great starts and a few awful starts. Lackey and Beckett could be the keys for us if we have any chance to pass the Rays and/or Yankees. Lackey's W/L isn't bad, but his ERA is near 5. Depending on how long Beckett is out (hopefully he'll be back and healthy for a stretch run) - Lackey needs to do a lot better considering the type of money he's making.

Negative. Drunk rants, no more, no less... But I do really hate the Red Sox. I'm not alone, just alone in being obnoxious about it on the Wolf Web.

Also, this is a huge troll:
Quote :
"It's nice to have more than 25,000 fans in the ballpark every night so you can afford to pay players. Let's wave bye to Crawford, Pena and company. Keep banging those ridiculous cowbells."

We all know that the Red Sox have had troubles keeping players in the past, and I only have to cite last year as an example. *cough*Jason Bay*cough* And honestly, with how the farm system is set up, the Rays don't need to rely on one player, like Crawford or (especially because he's doing pretty terrible this year so far) Pena. There's not a shortage of people who could potentially come into the league and compete with overpaid players as long as the Rays have this successful mechanism in place. It's worked pretty well the last several years, and the only alternative is doing exactly as the Yankees do, yet somebody's team certainly hasn't had nearly the success doing it.

But as long as we're in first place, the fans can keep banging those cowbells.

2 back

^^ They chose not to resign Bay. He wasn't worth the money. Do I always agree with managements' moves? Hell no. But the Sox are in a different situation than the Rays. The Rays can't afford to keep all of their players because the owner said they will not spend as much next year as this year, and they have some bargain contracts that are expiring as it is. Never said we were going after Crawford, just saying they can't afford to resign most of their free agents to be.

And I get to Fenway once a year, and Camden to see them at least once a year. Did you switch to the Rays when they became affiliated with the Bulls? I'm from New England, been a Sox fan all my life, so try again.

Yep, it was great to see them finally sweep someone. We haven't lost a series in a while, but haven't gone on any kind of long win streak either. Lackey's got a good W-L, but his ERA is still pretty high.

Swept away Manny and the Dodgers.

Honestly with the type of injuries the Sox have had this year I didn't give them much of a shot, but guys like McDonald, and Nava have come out of nowhere to be legitimate contributors with Ellsbury and Cameron out for so long. Buccholz coming into his own has really offset the loss of Beckett also.

They've hit the outfield 7-8-9 at least 15 times this season, that has to lead the league. I never thought they were done, but I expected this type of run to come when they were back at full strength, not with AAA guys contributing day in and day out.

After not being able to score anything at all the last few weeks, the Sox put up 6 runs last night after the return of Victor Martinez. Still waiting for Pedroia and Ellsbury, but V-Mart provides a lot of protection for guys like Ortiz. Ortiz hasn't done anything since V-Mart has been out and he hit 2 HR's last night. Lineup has a lot more balance just with Martinez's return.

I think the Yankees will take the division easily down the stretch, but I hope the Sox can put together a run for the Wild Card. They have to get healthy and get some bullpen pieces - Delcarmen/Ramirez/Okajima have been absolutely awful. Buccholz and Beckett looked good in their last starts also.

2 devastating walk-off losses in a row

First a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th blown against the Jays
And tonight an early 8-2 lead squandered, then Wake serves up a walk-off HR in extras

The injuries have been huge (Ellsbury may be going back on the DL now), but the bullpen has been the reason they're so far back at this point. They cannot win when they the BP gives up game, after game, after game. Also after 3 good starts, Beckett has come back with 2 absolutely awful ones.
